Jimmy sucks in a shootout Howard

From what I can tell, his 5 hole is open everytime in shootouts. Actually, just shoot low on him and it's more then likely going in.

I agree. To be honest, covering the bottom of the net is the best thing you can do in the shootout. It puts the onus on the shooter to get the puck up and that is often when mistakes happen. If you look at how the wings get stoned in the SO it is usually because they try to deke and the entire bottom of the net is taken away. If a player beats you top shelf then oh well call it a day.

Yeah that's no true, there are hundreds of ways to make the save in a shootout. It's not a lottery where one move is right and every other move is wrong. The goalies save more than 50% of shootouts usually and they defnitely have the edge. Try saving one vs scoring one yourself and see which you find easiest.

Aka goalies have a CLEAR advantage in shootouts, well unless that goalie happens to be Howard...

I have tried both, I've been playing hockey since I was four. I wasn't saying there is only one save the goalie can make. I was saying there is only one place out of several possible ones that a shooter will put the puck. The goalie has to anticipate when and where the player will put it. Then he has to start adjusting before the puck even leaves the player's stick. If he guesses wrong by either picking the wrong spot or time, he has essentially surrendered a goal.

Remember , in my original post, I said that the shooter has the advantage when you don't account for variables, such as the skill of the players involved. Those stats you present are only evidence of the fact that the average NHL goalie is far better at what he does than an average NHL forward or defenseman is better at what he does.

They prove that it's a lot easier to save a penalty shot than to score on one regardless of who is playing, that's how an average works.

This isn't like soccer where the goalie has to pick a corner and guess. In hockey he can just stand still and still have a pretty good shot of being in the way.

I don't know how right you are. To put it in perspective a player who scores a lot like stamkos will have about a 10% scoring percentage throughout the year. But on a shootout a player who only scores 25% of the time is considered bad at shootouts. The player is much more likely to score in a shootout then in a real time situation. Hence it gives the player an advantage. A goalie who saves 75% of shootout attempts is great at shootouts. Meanwhile that same goalie will have a .900 or more save % throughout the year.

What's his bad pass goal % at? (Assuming you've been tracking this)

I have a life outside of a hockey forum.

And I don't have personal code of having to go into and read every post of every thread and then give my opinion, regardless of whether or not I actually care or want to talk about the subject.

So no, I haven't.

I assume that had that thread survived and Howard's numbers this season went the way you hoped/planned (after two games), there would have been time set aside for the stats.

Mind you Howard has played extremely well which kinda ruined the fun of it all.

First of all I've never been hoping that he sucks. it just happens that I don't give him a pass when he does.

Second, that was when I realized that there is no point in coming to a discussion board if you can't have a discussion without people people throwing a fit and the mods overly policing what can and can't be talked about.

Really? I've always thought the mods let more stuff go than what they should.

Compared to some other boards they're quite lenient.

People might take you more seriously if you posted other than only appearing to comment on Jimmy's bad performances.

As for the moderating team, we've been through this before. Feel free to contact Matt or post in the moderator thread in the water cooler.

Do not continue to comment on the moderating here, even if it's to compliment me on the awesome job I'm doing, because your post will be deleted since it is off topic.

I don't know what they do at practices but it maybe wouldn't hurt if you took like 10 minutes to practice shootouts?

They need to practice shootouts against an AHL team, not against each other. It's counter-intuitive when guys who can't shoot face a goalie who can't stop a beach ball.
