This is so ridiculous. I mean they look like a group that has never seen or practiced a shootout situation every single time it occurs.

They could be first in the conference by a couple points by going just .500 even in the shootout this season. 1-5 though really leaves too many valuable points on the table.

The Panthers and Leafs have given the Wings their past four losses. I don't even really know what to say about tonight's game besides Tatar was exceptional and everyone else was just there. Definitely deserved a better fate on Wednesday, but this wasn't a very inspiring team effort.

That would be a genius move to trade a goalie with a 2.15 GAA and .918 save percentage. I know he is bad in the shootout, but my goodness, what an extreme overreaction.

It almost feels comical when OT ends (when Howard is in net) because you know what looms. Too much pride stands in the way for Babcock to yank Howard specifically during the shootout. As much as some suggest it, I do not believe it will ever happen.

Hope this is not the beginning of a slump. As for the shootout, I think the players are getting too close to the goalie. There is no space, especially with a goalie the size of Luongo.

I get that it sucks that he's not a great shootout goalie, but we can't score consistently in the shootout either, and it's the stupidest thing to be pissing and moaning about, because it's the damn shootout! I should say a part of the game that shouldn't matter because it's just a stupid part of the game today. Sure, I'd like to win, and I wish we were better, but the whole team sucks at it, and if it's the worst of our problems this year, which I believe it to be, we're in pretty good shape. Especially come playoff time when overtime is decided by playing a hockey game again.

Had to head out after regulation ... found out that it went into SO and no surprise, loser point. Would have been nice for 2 but if Howie had one weakness, I guess this is the least of all evils. Still tied with Tampa for #1 for now.

everyone blames howard for losing the shootouts. how are you going to win shootouts when no one can score a goal. i would think howard would play with more confidence if he knew his team could have his back and score a few goals if god forbid he lets a few in.

i understand you want your players that give you the best chance of winning the game but theyre not getting it done so why not switch it up.

I didn't think we played a bad game. The Panthers' forecheck caused all kinds of problems for us in the first and second, but I thought we pretty much owned the third. I think we're really missing Abby; we're not making life hard enough for these goalies, and we're missing his heavy forechecking (not a lot of sustained pressure from the top two lines). But the biggest issue, I think, remains our transition game. It's flat-out not where it needs to be. It was miraculous a couple nights ago, but that's not gonna happen every night (i.e. the Leafs suck). Tonight we iced the puck about a thousand times on stupid "Well, maybe this'll work, maybe it won't - let's find out" stretch passes to no one. A better faceoff team would've made us pay.

The shootout...no words.

Bottom line is we're leaving a ton of points on the table (five and counting) and that has to stop being a thing, and it's on Howard and the shooters and the coaching staff to figure it out. I don't get the impression they're taking it as seriously as they should.

I totally agree. I hate the shoot out, and it's stupid for Howard to shoulder as much blame as he does.

I don't know why you'd keep sending out Datsyuk-Nyquist-Tatar. If you've lost five of these things with pretty much that same trio in that same order every time (I know Helm made an appearance), maybe you think about, y'know, changing that? At the very least, maybe have Nyquist or Tatar go first?
