I took this from the Howard all star thread, but I hope rinnes injury doesn't keep him out long enough to effect the vezina.

Rinne could miss 3-5 weeks and it really sucks, because he has been the one of the reasons why nashville is high in the standings, look for them to slide down a little bit

Should be between him Maurice and Hartley

What about Babcock? According to you, our team was basically a pile of garbage coming into the season, at this point we are 3 points out of #1 seed. I remember you saying Babcock would have to work his ass off just to get us in the 8th spot.

will -sadly- be the same as last year ⇐ nomination but the title will go to one of the afore-mentioned ones.

I still haven't changed my wait and see approach,

Babcock is the best coach that has never won a Jack Adams ... I mean seriously, all the press saying he will be highest paid, most sought after free agent coach come this summer, nominated a few times but never won it.

Just as valuable of an award as GM of the year.

He was never hired mid-season to clean up a mess and get a fringe team solidly into the playoffs.

Yah, that seems to be the criteria for winning it ... or some coach for the first time who gets lucky. Roy, MacLean ... I mean seriously, MacLean gets one before Babcock? The body of work through the years is not a factor they take into consideration.

Let's see how the most recent winners are doing:

Roy - 2nd year coaching, team in 10th place

MacLean - fired, unemployed

Hitch - pretty steady

Bylsma - let go, unemployed

Tippet - probably going to be looking for a new job soon

Julien, Boudreau, Vigneault - doing well.

Lindy Ruff in Dallas - strugglig a bit there

Tortorella - :lol::lol:

At this rate, they might hand it to Capuano in NYI this year.

Honestly, I would say they will

Adams is a joke of an award. It doesn't go to the best coach, it goes to the coach of the team that exceeds expectations the most.

Agreed, but how else do you judge how good a coach is? There's always people that will say that any team's success is due to the players. The only real time you can definitively say that coaching played a role is when there's a coaching change and then the team improves.

To me the Jack Adams award should have the following criteria: How good is a team on paper/what is their projection. Which coach got his team to exceed that projection by the largest margin.

Whats the alternative, just giving it to the coach of the presidents trophy every year?

There is no good metric, but if you pay attention you know what coaches are doing a great job and which ones aren't.
