All Purpose Grand Rapids Griffins Thread

To be honest, I don't see the point in arguing about whether Pulks utilizes the same go to move to score goals or not, because that's what all elite goal scorers do. Look at the 2 best pure goal scorers in the league:

1. Stamkos (patented half boards one timer)

2. Ovechkin (comes down his off wing, uses defender as a screen and fires through his legs OR his PP point/half boards one timer)

I am not suggesting Teemu Pulkinnen is the next Steve Stamkos or Alex Ovechkin, but we should be able to agree that (1) he has an elite shot and (2) he has absolutely solidified himself as the best pure goal scorer in the AHL at 23 years of age. Those 2 facts lead me to believe that he should be able to one day be a very good offensive player in the NHL... (even if most of his goals come on the PP the same way)

I really don't get your point here at all. You're acting as if I was bashing Pulkkinen when I'm not at all. I'm actually one of the bigger Pulkkinen supporters on here. I'm simply making the point that he needs to add more to his bag of tricks and not be as predictable when entering the zone...

I'm not sure if you watch the games or just catch the highlights but I watch a TON of games and Bob Kaser (the Griffins' Ken Daniels) has said numerous times over the course of the season and even in these playoffs how Teemu needs to change up his game a little if he wants to make it in the NHL. That was my only point, I'm not sure what your beef with that is...

I'd also like to add that inside the offensive zone, Pulkkinen is without question the most dangerous player on the Griffins, hence all the different types of goals he has scored. That doesn't change the fact that his zone entries are very predictable. And while they most certainly can work at the AHL level, they don't / won't cut it in the NHL. There is a lot less time and space and no defender is going to fall for that move, and even if they do, the likelihood of the goaltender missing it is even less likely... To compare Pulkkinen's entries to Datsyuk and Zetterberg's is a little foolish don't ya think?...

No need to get defensive. Like I said, it just seemed you weren't appreciating the other aspects of his game, so I pointed some out.

But I would add that he doesn't have to score to make it an effective zone entry, it just needs to lead to possession. Some of those shots will end up in face-offs, some will get picked up by our guys, might even get lucky and see one go in. All in all not likely any less effective than a dump-in.

Actually I'm going to disagree with this. The majority of his shots he takes just after crossing the blue-line have resulted in turnovers (at least in the NHL). Goalie makes the easy save, directs it to one of his defensman, and out they go. It was something that frustrated me pretty regularly when he was with the Wings. Even if he's hell-bent on shooting the puck, at the very least I would like to see Pulkkinen buy an extra second or two before shooting it so his linemates can get deeper into the zone for a screen, or rebound, or just to apply a little pressure to their D and maybe regain possession. Unfortunately for Pullks that extra second is real hard to come by at this level.

Yes doctor he's right over there...

*points at jimmy*

Someone needed to lighten the mood here on lgw, and I took it in my hands to make it as light, and airy as the sweet delicious taste of wonka laffy taffy, that once had seeds.

Haha

I think I'm done now

I was drinking and, CRAVING, just the seeds for some reason, so I bought fifteen bars of taffy hoping to just get the seeds and so far none have them.

So I'm throwing a fit.

A FITTTTTT!!!!!!

But who does grand rapids play next?

Haha

We're playing Rockford next round, which starts tonight. They swept Texas (last years Calder Cup Champs) in the first round. Should be a good matchup.

And there is a temporary name change in place for Rockford Michigan (which is just north of GR along US 131). Griffinville.
