Andersson doesn't bring anything to the table, but he also doesn't take anything off it.

Agreed about Weiss on the board battles. He needs to play center, especially on a line that will allow him to possess the puck. It doesn't surprise me that he turns it over all the time with the role he's in.

I disagree about Weiss and board battles. Regardless of his position or what line he's on, I expect him to be responsible with the puck and play strong wherever he is on the ice. Centers play along the boards all the time, and if he's going to cough the puck up when someone pressures him, I'd rather he blow the fourth line's scoring chance, and not Datyuk's or Zetterberg's.

See if Mantha turns things around after next season with Grand Rapids.

Odd how it seems late picks in draft work out for us and the the first rounders it can be hit and miss; no rhyme or reason to anything really

Mantha is only 20. Give him a couple years in the AHL and see what happens. He has all the skill in the world, his effort just needs to be better. He has to want it.

Weiss can't win a board battle yet he's put in a position that only allows him to try and win board battles. He is way too skilled to be on the 4th line.

Anderson is not a PK specialist, he's just there because he's a 4th liner and not a top line guy. He doesn't block shots, he doesn't pressure anyone he just stands there waving his stick most of the time. No matter what way you slice it, Anderson blows and shouldn't be on this team because he contributes absolutely nothing.

Pure curiosity here.... would you rather have Andersson.... or Emmerton?

I have 2 questions about the Griffins tonight.

With Zach Nastasiuk eliminated from the OHL playoffs I wonder if we will see him in Grand Rapids?

And What the heck happened in the 7 - 2 thumping on the Toronto Marilies

Here is the game sheet for penalties at 16:44 in the 3rd

3 - TOR Carrick, 16:44 - Fighting, 5 min 3 - TOR Leivo, 16:44 - Fighting, 5 min 3 - TOR Leivo, 16:44 - Game misconduct - Fighting off the playing surface, (46.8) 10 min 3 - TOR Ross, 16:44 - Roughing, 2 min 3 - TOR Ross, 16:44 - Misconduct - Unsportsmanlike conduct, (75.4) 10 min 3 - GR Aubry, 16:44 - Fighting, 5 min 3 - GR Aubry, 16:44 - Game misconduct - Fighting off the playing surface, (46.8) 10 min 3 - GR Bruton, 16:44 - Interference, 2 min (PP) 3 - GR Bruton, 16:44 - Roughing, 2 min 3 - GR Bruton, 16:44 - Fighting, 5 min

They must've been kicked out, found each other in the hallways and continued fighting.

Another solid night for the Griffins. AA with two goals and Mantha with two points. Seems like the chemistry there is really building up.

Just curious, what do you think about guys like Miele, Zengerle, Paetsch, Hoggan and Evans? I'd like to keep Miele, Paetsch and Zengerle for sure - Zengerle's earned a contract, IMO. Just wondering about room next season, with guys like Bertuzzi and Nastasiuk turning pro. It's a little crowded on the back-end, too. I still think Paetsch has worked out very well for them. It will depend on what happens with Ouellet and/or Marchenko, I think. Edited by Jesusberg

This is a really good article which discusses the organization's philosophy regarding AHL veterans. In short, they seem to place a premium on ensuring that there are always hard working, career AHLers around to mentor the young NHL prospects. I'd be surprised if any of the guys you asked about weren't thought of very highly by the organization.

I read that the other day. I really like what Paestch does on the back end, and I think Hoggan still has a place on the team for sure. I think you and I discussed Evans' value earlier in the year, specifically vs. Mattias Backman. Obviously, that ship has sailed and I lost that one. In retrospect, Backman just seems to be one of those guys who had a sense of entitlement and wanted to be given the ice time/shot at the NHL, not earn it (Dick Axelsson and Daniel Larsson come to mind).

I'd really like for Miele to return - he seems to like it in GR, too. Maybe we'll see something like this up front next season:

Hoggan-AA-Mantha

Bertuzzi/Nastasiuk-Miele-Zengerle

Tvrdon-Nosek-Frk

?-Aubry-Campbell

I think that maybe we'll see one of Bertuzzi/Nastasiuk work their way into the line-up, with the other guy working in Toledo. One of them might even jump to that top line - I wouldn't be shocked to see Bert do well on that line. I think they should hang onto Aubry in that 4C spot - just based on Blashill's comments in that video, he thinks there's more to Aubry's game. Either way, I don't think it hurts to hang onto a guy that knows the system/team and can fill in that spot.

Ouellet-Marchenko

Paetsch-Sproul

Lashoff-Jensen

If Ouellet and Marchenko start down there (very real possibility with both being waiver exempt), I wonder where Evans fits in. Wouldn't hurt to carry him as the 7th guy, I suppose. Czarnowczan looked decent at times during the year - I think GR signed him and then sent him down to Toledo, so he'll be in the mix. Nedomlel doesn't seem to be pushing for a spot in GR, and I wonder if any one of Marshall, Wheaton or McNulty will even be signed to a contract.

Coreau

Paterson

I wonder if McCollum takes another one-year deal or just moves on. I thought he was all but done before his strong stretch of games. Not sure now. Perhaps he and Coreau split time again, with Paterson in Toledo.

I don't see any chance of Miele or Zengerle ever playing a game for the Wings and there's no chance Hoggan or Evan ever will, as their sole purpose on the team is to provide leadership and help the kids transition and develop at the pro level. I'd like to see Miele re-signed for his production, and although Zengerle has done reasonably well this season (especially of late) he is very replaceable. I'd keep Hoggan around for his leadership, probably let Evans walk, and keep Paetsch as the leader on the back end.

Nastasiuk has already joined the Griffins since Owen Sound has been eliminated from the playoffs. He played last night and from what I seen wasn't very noticeable out there. He did make one nice play on a pass to Porter in front of the net that he should have easily buried but he whiffed on it. I can't wait to see what Bertuzzi can do with the Griffins. I'm almost hoping Guelph get eliminated next round just to see him in the AHL playoffs.

Definitely agree here, which is why I think it would be cool to see Bertuzzi or Nastasiuk on their wing. Those two scoring lines that I suggested seem to have a good balance of young skill and vet presence. Obviously these guys can be shifted just about anywhere, but I really like the look of Tvrdon-Nosek-Frk.

As replaceable as Zengerle is, there's really no reason to push him out unless he thinks he's got a better shot elsewhere. I mean, maybe they'll find a guy out of the NCAA to play in GR, but if there's no one else...

Absolutely. I do think Zengerle has played well and I would offer him another contract, but he's just not a player we need to keep, is all I meant by that.

I also agree with your lines. Pulkkinen is obviously making the Wings full time next season as he will be out of options, but do you think there is any chance Ferraro could pass through waivers again? I doubt it but it would give us a little more depth. I see one of Ferraro / Callahan possibly making the Wings as the 14th forward out of camp (hopefully Callahan) and the other being claimed by another team. If we were able to somehow hold onto Ferraro for another season I'd like to see something like...

Hoggan - Athanasiou - Mantha

Bertuzzi - Miele - Ferraro

Tvrdon - Nosek - Frk

Aubry - Porter - Nastasiuk

Campbell - Bruton

Guelph got beat pretty bad last night in Sault Saint Marie, Game 2 goes tonight.

If they keep this up you just may get your wish.

Tyler Bertuzzi's Guelph storm was eliminated from post season play last night. I wonder if we will see him on GR.

On another note Jake Patterson was called up to GR.

Hopefully Bert round 2 is called to g.r. I'm going to the final home game Saturday :D
