Jimmy Howard.......All-Star!

Most of the early Sabres goals on Mrazek were due to the players in front of him sucking hard. If you're going to blame the goalie for everything, then apply it equally. If you're actually going to criticize accurately, then again, apply it equally. If you're going to call out the D or Forwards for blowing coverage leaving the goalie out to dry, apply it equally.

And now, for a poem inspired by EuroTwins:

Roses are red,

violets are blue.

I'm schizophrenic

And so am I.

You crazy nuts bro ... you, hockeymom1960, gcom007 ... where are the other 47?

Yeah, it's crazy nuts to think Mrazek has the potential to challenge Howard for the starting spot in 1-2 years. That's all I'm saying, and I don't think many here would actually disagree with that timeline too much. You might want to try actually reading what I'm saying.

Yeah I'm getting pretty tired of people shoving words in other people's mouths and then arguing against what wasn't said.

Not really getting a whole lot of experience sitting on the bench for 70% of the games or observing playoff hockey from the second row (all those season ticket holders on the glass have sooo much playoff experience by now, suit em up!!). I agree that's probably what's going to happen.

Though I don't know if management has the balls to get rid of a known veteran commodity who has years left on a contract paying him like (5.5 mil?) a season, even if they have a better player ready to go.

Sorry if I misunderstood the above comment ... it seemed like you wanted Kenny to get working on a Howie deal tomorrow.

no, what I was talking about was a couple years from now when Howie still has years left on his $5 mil deal

Oh? Because this:

I want you're honest opinion.

Does anybody really miss Howard right now?

and this...

Right, just ignore the part about how his playing style helps the team....icon_think.gif

Mrazek is putting up similar numbers to Howard's (so also 'Top 10') and has won 3 straight

and this...

You understand that at some point in every single player's career they "had no playoff experience", right?

It's not like Howard has had great success in the postseason (not all his fault, but it is what it is)

Edit: Yeah he is a rookie and he is young, which mean's he's still got potential to improve and get more comfortable than he already is.

When exactly is he going to get a full season under his belt so you can make a judgement on him? In six years when he's 28 and we've missed out on some almost all of his prime years?

aaaand this...

all seem to suggest that you think Mrazek is capable of doing the job that Howard's doing right now, only better because of his ability to handle the puck. Then suggesting that Howard is in his way of getting in a "full season" for the next six years, because management can't judge Mrazek playing 20-30 games next year - suggests urgency in getting Mrazek into the starting position ASAP. You do realize that they could be splitting the games 40/40 as soon as 2017-18, right?

Regardless, I really don't think anyone was misreading your stance on the goaltending situation, but by all means, backpedal to your heart's content.

Everybody around here knows I don't like Howie in net, and it seems because of that everybody is reading too much into what I've said.

I just reread all of that and nowhere do I say I want to just get rid of Howie right this second (i.e. a Majkowski-Favre situation).

It's more of a Favre-Rodgers situation, where the backup comes in and shows he can handle the job. A season or two later they got rid of Farve and and Rodgers took over. I'd say they made the right decision and Rodgers turned out to be even better than Favre.

And clarifying my statements because people like you are reading too much into them isn't what I would consider backpedaling

The problem is that backups haven't really proven anything until they are asked to carry the load. Backups can often put up very good numbers for various reasons, but largely because they tend to be called upon to play against weaker teams and because they are given a much easier workload.

A backup may have great numbers, but can they handle playing 60+ games a year against the best competition?

For the record Mrazek has no stats anywhere near the top 10.

Wait... so Jones and Talbot are not better than Quick and Lundquist despite having better stats?

That's just crazy...

And to clarify even more, when I asked if anybody misses Howard right now, it was only in the sense that the wings were 3-0 (now 4-0) since he went down and have been playing really well minus the that one period.

Not that they don't miss him in the sense they'll just give him the boot because of a couple week injury.

And this whole situation is only because we have a goalie like Mrazek next in line. Believe me, if we didn't have him and our next prospect was McCollum, then no way would I suggest that Howard shouldn't be the guy for the remainder of his contract and probably beyond that.

Edit: I could also ask right now, Does anyone really miss Franzen? Becuase the team seems to be fine without him. It's the same thing.

Yes, but I did all along. He's the best goalie the Red Wings have by far. Nothing against Mrazek, as he will be great someday, but this is Jimmy's team right now.

Agree I like Mrazek but im sick of the double standard Howie is by far amazing and before his injury was having a Vezina Year but he cant catch a break sometimes yet Mrazek comes in and wins a few despite giving up some pretty weak goals and his the second coming of Roy

I would like to point out if Howard had let in 3 goals on 7 shots everyone would crucify him. Mrazek does and it's not his fault.

Mrazek has a shutout = Next Hasek

Howard has a shutout = Defense showed up tonight

Well I won't lie thats true for the most part and I'll admit I'm guilty of it at times. But it does seem like if you like Howard you'll do the same thing. Like if goals are scored against Mrazek that were due to defensive breakdowns and bad giveaways someone will post something like...

Anyone miss Jimmy?

Oh wait....
