Brodeur retires. Named Sr. Advisor to Blues GM

It's been about 5 years since Brett Favre retired. I remember that he held on too long, and I don't even watch football.

Chelios hung them up about 5 years ago, too. I'll never forget that he wound up splitting time between Atlanta and the Chicago Wolves during his last season, because he wasn't willing to retire when he should have.

I'm sure not every one will remember this stuff, but some will.

I do because I got to see him play here when the Wolves came to town.

McCarty too. (edit: I got to see him play, not insinuating he stayed around too long.)

Guy should play for as long as someone is willing to pay him. It's his life and career. Five years after he retires, 10 years, no one will remember that he "held on too long." He'll be remembered for a brilliant career.

He def will be remembered for his great career with the Devils and in International play, and I agree its his life and he can do what he wants. I dunno though, it just seems sad when great players past their prime try to hang on. When the team you've spent your entire career with, won three cups with, etc. does'nt want you any longer, it's really time to evaluate things. I know he still wants to play, but he won't really get to. He'll spend most of his time on the bench or in the press box. Thats no place for a guy like him. Again though, his career, his choice. Just would seem better to me if he retired instead of putting up with the clusterf*** hes in with the Blues.

Yeah but Farve had good seasons after he unretired and left green bay (I'm a packers fan :bye1: ) He threw six touchdowns in a game with the Jets (which was his career best) and had one one his best statistical seasons with the vikings the next year, almost getting them to the superbowl (though the game did end with a Farve interception).

His last season was really bad though, so it was just one season too long.

The HoF committee doesn't care. Neither should we.

Honestly, I think Washington should be all over this one. Holtby goes down or has some issues in the post-season and you're looking at Justin Peters/Philipp Grubauer taking the reigns.

I still don't really get why Marty left NJ, other than things going really sour. I don't know much about their goaltending depth, but Keith Kinkaid doesn't strike me as anything special. They're basically riding Schneider into the ground - he's started 41 of 47 games. Marty should have just kept his mouth shut, accepted his back-up role and stuck with his team.

The thing that makes Brodeur hanging around sad and different than someone like Chelios playing way past his prime, is that Chelios never had any illusions about his skill level declining. He played in the AHL because he loved playing hockey and wanted to play at the highest level he was capable of.

Brodeur still thinks he's a starter. That's why he left New Jersey and I think he's taking so long to "decide" because he's still trying to convince people behind closed doors that he should get a starting job somewhere. Or at least a backup job he thinks he can turn into a starting job. His ego is well-known and I think that's what makes the situation kind of sad.

EDIT: My point being that it's not necessarily sad for a player to hang around, as long as they're not fooling themselves.

Kinkaid def is'nt anything special, from the games i've seen him play anyways. Seems very nervous, prone to bad goals.

Martin Brodeur is set to announce his retirement and join the St. Louis Blues front office.

Martin Brodeur can do what he wants, but kind of weird that he's joining the front office of a team we can all agree HE NEVER PLAYED FOR.

So whenever you get the trivia question about best athletes to play their entire careers with one team, sadly Fatso will not be on it because of that 7 game embarrassment in a Blues uniform.

Should have retired in the offseason.

That's a huge slap in the face to the Devils organization. He played his whole career there and joins the front office for the Blues where he played a handful of games?

The Devs are beyond broken. Parise, Kovy, Clarkson, Broduer all dipped out on them. Weak prospect pool. Mess of a coaching and management situation. Screwed.

Maybe he had some issues with the management there. I hope the Blues retire his jersey haha.

This is either trying to get his feet wet and joining the Devils once he has a bit of experience or still pissed about something. Think about Hextall he left the Flyers to become director of scouting for the LA Kings and then worked his way up. Now he has knowledge and the skills needed to run an organization and oh surprise he is back with the Flyers.

Doubt Brodeur wants much to do with the Devils. Surely he's still pissed that they would'nt resign him after he played his entire career there, won 3 cups, etc. I don't really see why he would be though. His time was done. He ended up making the right decision and retiring. Lamorillo has said he is always welcome back, but he'd rather pull a suck attack and work with the Blues, who he played what, 3 games for? lol
