Rhah 195 Report post Posted January 16, 2015 I had to watch the Blues feed last night and one of their announcers gave the typical "subtle interference" line that Eddie O has made so popular. I expect it from him, since he can't contain his bias even while doing a national broadcast game. But, the fact that like every opposing team's announcers have to make a comment on it has started to really annoy me. I also find it hard to believe that with all these teams that are borrowing and modeling their teams off Detroit's, that there is NO OTHER team that is ever guilty of the famous "subtle interference" maneuver? C'mon.
JSDO3O 4 Report post Posted January 16, 2015 I mean, if it's such a big problem that the Wings do it then why doesn't the league address it? It's not though because that's the way the game is played by EVERYONE... including St. Louis.
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted January 16, 2015 How about "subtle crosschecks and slashes"? There was a sequence last night along the boards in the St Louis end where Reaves and Jackman took turns crosschecking Glendenning in the back and the ribs as he battled for the puck. I counted 9. Watch the extended highlights of the Tatar goal and see how many times Shattenkirk slashes and crosschecks Sheahan as the play develops. (Riley's glove doesn't just fall off on it's own) So basically f*** Pang and company and f*** Olczyk 3 LasVegasRocks, TheXym and Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

chaps80 1,591 Report post Posted January 16, 2015 Bob MacKenzie was saying something about subtle interference on goaltenders last night, how you can go in the crease and push a goalie's pad when the puck is under it and as long as you only push the puck over the goal line, and not the goalie's leg, the goal counts. I was like WTF?

Nev 1,085 Report post Posted January 17, 2015 And then you watch the Canucks and their BLATANT interference, the Sedins running picks for each other left, right and centre.
TheXym 2,606 Report post Posted January 17, 2015 A lot of it stems, imho, from other announcers, (especially Olczyk) who are just jealous of the sustained success of the Wings for over two decades. For years, the Blackhawks were, for all purposes, irrelevant to post season discussions. They were able to draft Toews and Kane so high because they, as a team, sucked so hard for several seasons. Olczyk coached the Pens briefly, and had a record that only Mike Milbury could love (31-64-8-10). I wonder how many of those losses were due to "suttal intahfurrants" 2 Hockeymom1960 and chaps80 reacted to this

roboturner 562 Report post Posted January 19, 2015 I don't know why you guys seem so offended by it. It's not an illegal play that they are getting away with. Being in the path the opposing player wants to skate in isn't illegal, it just forces him to take an extra few strides to get around. Hitting the guy would be interference but not just standing in his way. Maybe 'subtle' isn't the best word to describe it because it implies that it is full on interference just sneakily hidden, but I don't think that is what is meant (most of the time. at least by everyone other than Eddy) "The Wings use those ends boards better than anybody else" "They're one of the best teams at screening the goalie and tipping the puck in" (not anymore, but..) "There is that subtle interference play that they do so well" Every team does it and the Wings do it well (apparently). That's all they're saying.
