Hockeymom1960 5,107 Report post Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) YES! Demons conquered for tonight. Nice five-game win streak heading into the break. Probably wouldn't have even needed the shootout if Howard was playing. Just saying. Really???? hahahahaha and I love Jimmy, btw. Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted January 21, 2015 You missed pretty much everything but it's ok, I have a feeling that happens to you a lot. Please, by all means, break it down for us slow folk. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted January 21, 2015 Really???? hahahahaha More than likely. I didn't think Mrazek was much to blame against Buffalo, but he wasn't all that sharp tonight. Didn't like the first goal and either the third or fourth resulted from a rebound he kicked back out into the middle. (Sorry, can't remember which because they all happened so quick in the third.) Nonono we got it wrong. Ericsson's blame is marginal in this case. Parise used his L33T skillz to overwhelm our mortal and innocent defensman. But Smith should have known better than to stand in the corner. Also Mrazek did something. I think. edit: I'm sorry for bustin your chops Ekmanc. I sincerely have no idea why Ericcson is getting any repreive from blame in this case. It is honestly baffling to me. I'm equally as baffled at how this is somehow also Smith's fault, but given his reputation on this forum I understand a little more. Clearly I don't understand the sophisticated low-risk art of passing the puck up the slot Again let me hit a hard knee high pass by you then and we'll see if you can bat it down? or we can watch a couple games and see how often that exact play happens and how it's almost never batted down like that. Maybe then you'll understand the risk involved a bit better. I love the part where he layed out everything you missed, and you had nothing in response other than this. U mad bro? In my original post I blamed mostly Ericsson and Mrazek and a tiny bit on Smith for being incredibly Passive. How you turn that into me not blaming Ericsson at all and putting it all on Smith is quite incredible... or maybe just massively disingenous? 1 roboturner reacted to this

Maybe then you'll understand the risk involved a bit better. He willfully misrepresents everything I said and I'm supposed to take it seriously? come on now... Ok my issue here is that I don't care how good or bad Ericsson is at passing, and I don't care how good or bad Parise is at intercepting passes, or how common or rare it is (and I'm under the impression that this actually happens more than you realize, but that's neither here nor there). What I care about, and what this whole play boils down to, is that Ericsson gave Parise the chance to intercept the pass. Which is stupid at any point in the game, with anyone right in front of the net. But well into the third, with Parise on the other side of the net, very, very, stupid. And its also why that goal rests entirely on Ericsson's shoulders. No Smith's. Not Mrazek's. Ericsson. Because he was the one to make a stupid decision which resulted in putting his teammates in a bind, and ultimately the puck in the net. Now if you're willing to look at the play as some freak accident, that's all fine and dandy. But personally, I get more out of the game when I can break down plays and understand exactly what went wrong, why, and what players can do and should do to prevent it from happening in the future. Its how I assess whether players are difference-makers on the team, or whether they're holding the team back. Thankfully most coaches share my philosophy, and prefer to identify responsibility and preach what can be improved instead of tossing their shoulders and saying "oh well Parise is elite. I bet he can't do that again next time we play them." 2 derblaueClaus and krsmith17 reacted to this

It's an interesting view that it's solely the player who makes the first mistake that is to blame for any given situation even if there are several mistakes made by other players later on that make the situation even worse. Do you think Mrazek played the situation well? if not I think we have at least two players who could've done a better job here...

But of course, when Ericsson F's up it's on other players to bail him out. If They don't it's their fault on the play.
Ekmanc 586 Report post Posted January 21, 2015 But of course, when Ericsson F's up it's on other players to bail him out. If They don't it's their fault on the play. Of course it is, players bail eachother out all the time. That's how team sports work and they all have a responsibility to play their given situation right no matter how it occured in the first place.

So when my boss doesn't do his job it really is my fault when I F up at mine because of his mistake. Gotcha. I shoulda just magically forewsaw his mistake and bailed him out. It all makes sense now. I must be a terrible employee thus far.
