Hang on to both as long as you can, unless an unbelievable offer comes your way. I look at this similar to the Thomas/Rask situation a few years back. (not that Howard is at the level Thomas was at in his prime).

I would hate to lose one for nothing. I look at the way LA lost Bernier a few years back when they traded him for Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens and a 2nd round selection. I would hate for this to happen to us.

Well, it's been about 5 or 6 years since we've had a real honest-to-gosh goalie flame-war here on LGWs.

BRING IT ON!!!!!! :evil::lol:

The good old days of Hasek and Osgood, those were some fun threads to read through. I'm sure Mrazek/Howard won't head in that direction though, we're all older and more mature :ninja:

That Mrazek kid is getting so overrated wow. Kid has 0 playoff experience and still needs to work on things and yet some people would prefer him as a number 1..

What's the rush send him back to the minors, let Mrazek work on his rebound control, over committing and once the off-season roles around see where he is at and decide whether to keep or trade the monster then or package Mrazek to improve the defense Thomas was the best goalie in the league back then and Rask already on the verge of becoming elite..

So that comparison is too much. Nabakov Niemi - I'm sure there better examples - would be close.

Clearly you are talking about my post as I mentioned Thomas/Rask. I never said Mrazek was going to be as good as Rask, I said it reminds me of the Thomas/Rask situation. The situation being, one is a starter who is better in the now, the other is young and is the future.

The point I was trying to make, let the kid learn from the vet and then take over when the time is right. I was hoping someone wouldn't try to derail this thread into "Howard is no Thomas!!" so I even specified:

I guess I had to also put "not that Mrazek is necessarily going to be Rask".

Nabokov and Niemi is a horrible example, not even close to the same situation as they were never there at the same time. I wasn't picking goalies of a similar caliber, I was referencing a similar situation.

I believe, especially on here, that no one is advocating he's #1 right now. Jimmy is #1. However, you need re-state the above because he does have playoff experience, it's just not NHL playoff experience, yet.

Those wars were epic, and left quite the Legace behind for us all to remember. ;)

Monsters not signed after this season...

He's a free agent.

Just for the record.

I wonder how many people forget this, and also that Mrazek is on a one way contract next year. Let Monster stick around for depth, he has been a good soldier for the Wings when healthy. If he wants to go elsewhere, then honor that. In any case, I don't see him back with the organization next year at the NHL level. Edited by TheXym

I swear some people on this board would have wanted to keep Gretzky in the minors for 4 years before bringing him up just because "that's the way the Wings do it"

Unlike Mike McKee. He's so underrated.

Apparently they're unsure what to do with our goalie situation so the wings will carry three goalies for now....

Babcock said Mrazek will back-up Howard tomorrow vs. Jets. They’ll take it day by day after that, so no decision yet on if he’ll go to GR.

Is Danny Cleary still on the roster? Can't we waive him already so we can carry these three goalies, plus 8 defensemen... please? LOL.

I don't see what they're so unsure about. Mrazek has a great record, did his job when called upon, is the future #1, but he's got some glaring weaknesses. Some of the goals he lets in are beyond soft. Even just a simple thing like putting his upper body against the post, and the Pens first goal om Wed. does'nt go in. Send him down to GR where he can work on these things, and go with Howard and Monster for the rest of the season barring injury and bring Mrazek up full time next year when Monster will be UFA. Carrying three goalies makes no sense. Mrazek does'nt need to clear waivers, Monster does, and he would most likely be claimed. Or, if they really think Mrazek is ready to back up full time, then trade Monster for something. I'd hate to see this turn into a situation where Kenny loses another player for nothing, especially one with value. I'm sure NYR would be interested in him.

Gustavsson might get a 6th rounder if they're lucky. Send the kid down now and in the playoffs they can bring him up if GR gets knocked out or Howard gets hurt.

A 6th rounder is still better than nothing, although I think he could fetch more. Just hate to see players lost for no return just because they're unsure about what they want to do. It's not really a complicated scenario. At all.

If you think a player has trade value, and you have to explain why he has value, or who he has value to, he probably doesn't have value.

Just suggested NYR would have interest as they are fighting for a playoff spot, King Henrik is out, and from what i've seen of Talbot, he looks shaky in the #1 role. Would be some good insurance for them.

He's a injury prone, ufa, career backup goalie that we don't intend to keep. Why would anyone give anything for him? It's not like this is someone we have locked up. Are you going to hope we can trade Quincey next year?

Every team lets players walk for no return every year. I don't understand the idea that every pending free agent they probably won't bring back has to be traded. They still have some value to the team this year, it's not a good idea to trade them just to get something back.

All i'm saying is that they should try to get something for him instead of just exposing him to waivers, no matter what it is. He's not a horrible goalie. When he's on his game and healthy he's actually pretty damn good, and for a team that needs short term experienced help in goal, he fits the bill. Without him last season, we don't make the playoffs.

Well thats what I said before. Theres no reason to get rid of anyone. Gus still has value to this team. Just do the simple thing and send Mrazek to GR where he should be to get playing time, and all is settled. But, if they really feel the need to move Gus, at least try to gain something before going the waiver route, ya know?

Nobody other than fans said anything about waiving him. He's the backup Mrazek will be sent down
