LA puts Mike Richards on waivers

Considering Edmonton fans are whiny about them not being able to bring in guys like this during free agency a waiver claim by them seems like a smart move

If he goes to Edmonton, that would be the end of his partying days as we know it. Not many pornstars parties up there.

Being waived doesn't mean they have to send him to the AHL if he isn't claimed. They may just be throwing him out there in the hope he gets claimed, and if not they'll just keep him.

You're right, but I guess that's not likely...

If Richards clears, expectation is he'll be assigned to Manchester (AHL). LA obviously hopes waivers may flush out more trade options.

What a blunder by Lombardi. Everyone could see Richards was done being a top 6 forward after the finals, and they even had the window to buy him out and opted not too! They'll never be rid of that deal unless they eat half the contract and damn near give him away.

Thing is, Kings have managed to win two Cups with Richards. Contract's probably a mistake, but a mistake they can afford to make, given the strength of the rest of their team.

I don't know if you've seen the standings recently, but the Kings are currently on the outside of the playoff race looking in. I'm sure a lot of folks will say the Cup victories are worth it, but that domination the Kings had looks like it could be fleeting, as opposed to Detroit, or Chicago, or Pittsburgh, or Anaheim, who are still able to get to the postseason after their Cup victories.

For the record, the Kings are still in the playoff race, and I don't want to cast them off as a has-been team, but I don't know if its accurate to say that Richards' contract is a mistake they can currently afford to deal with given where they happen to be in the standings.

Chicago made the playoffs by 2 points after they won the cup the first time. They weren't in any better shape than la is now

As did the Ducks a couple years after they won, and then they did miss the year after, and again two years after that...

They're sure kicking themselves for that now.

100% would be fine with my team missing the postseason if they produced two championships in three years.

I tell what I would be fine with....sending Jurco back to GR to get better playing minutes, keeping Dan Cleary in the press box, having Pulk be the injury call up and down, putting Franzen on LTIR for the rest of the season and being the team that picks up Mike Richards...maybe this should in the "state your unpopular opinion" thread! Seriously, though, I think our team would be better.

you would seriously pay almost 6 million for a player who has done nothing but decline over the past couple years? He's a good fourth liner maybe 3rd at best his time is over. he WAS a good player but he just isnt anymore his body has decayed because he doesnt take care of himself.

Our team would be better by demoting or reducing the playing time of four wingers, and bringing on another center who's only got 15 points in 47 games? AND he makes almost 6 million a year until 2019.

How, exactly, would that make the team better?

How do you not see that Kip? Mike Richards is far superior to Tomas Jurco and Teemu Pulkkinen... Richards won a World Junior Gold, an Olympic Gold and two Stanley Cups... What the f*** have those two chumps done? And Danf****** Cleary and Johanf****** Franzen are awwwwful...
