SEXY!

I wish I could see these standings in a meme form with the caption having one of the talking head analysts

saying the Red Wings will barely make the playoffs. I know I heard it somewhere.

I think when the guys look and see themselves at the top they're going to be extra motivated to stay there.

8 and 2 in our last 10? What a time to be alive!!!

Just think if we could shore up a D a bit better weather it be just playing better or picking up someone at the trade deadline. The wings could be lights out. Never would of thought that at the start of the season. I have to eat some crow for sure.

He was great late in the game tonight. Because he’s clutch.

Clutch isn't just making saves in the last 5 minutes. Clutch goaltenders make those important saves through the whole game. Mrazek is the future for the organization and I am excited about his potential but he looks like a rookie which is what he is. Hes not winning games for the wings and hes not losing him. Hes basically an average goaltender right now which ironically everyone accuses Howard of being. Since taking over for Howard hes only held a team below two goals once, has a gaa at 2.5 and a save% just over .900. Those are average numbers. If you look at his numbers in GR and the Wings this year it has been statistically his worst season as pro so far. Luckily the Wings offense has been on fire for him. Its basically the Gus effect last year. Gus was good but for some reason the Wings scored almost a goal a game more for him. Hes doing a great job of doing just enough to keep this role going but the Wings really need Howard back if they want to finish the season as a top 3 seed. You only have to look at how bad the PK has dropped off to see the difference between Howard and Mrazek in net right now.

and the sad thing is when Jimmy takes over again the goals against will go down but the goals for will too and he will get crucified like theres no tomorrow even though Mrazek has not been great in every one of these games his 5-0-0

Ok do we not realize that Mrazek's a rookie that's not even suppose to be playing in the NHL right now???? I think he's done pretty damn good job, especially since we have our #1 and #2 out and we're #1 in the Atlantic division.

I would agree that he has done pretty well, but what this stint has shown is that he's not ready for full time NHL starting, which some have been calling for. This is why Kenny kept Monster. Mrazek can still use time in the AHL.

Who really could of guessed we would be where we are now before the season started? Pleasantly surprised.

I did. Read my post back in October.

I like how challenging the division can be you cant count out Fla or Tor yet only buffalo is the team who cant do squat but its amazing how the atlantic can be the toughest race in the east

I just hope we don't get stuck against Boston in the first round. Don't like that matchup, even if they have struggled this year.

Watching the game last night, it dawned on me Franzen has been gone for 5 or 6 games. It doesn't look like the Wings miss him too much.

Seriously. It doesn't even register that he's missing. I'm not trying to be an over the top ass in saying that. I mean that in the most general way possible. It doesn't even occur to me that he's missing watching the games lately.

Barely make the playoffs? We weren't expected to make the playoffs by most if my memory serves me correctly.

But to be fair, we are operating in best case scenario mode right now when it comes to how our young guys are playing. It easily could've gone the other way, and even in the coming years, some of the guys that look like studs now could drop off fast. It's really tough to tell with young players adjusting to the NHL.

But thus far, it's been golden, and they're giving us reason to believe they're the real deal and won't drop off, so I'm pretty ******* excited about this team.

Have you watched the last 6 games? I'm loving the wins. Unfortunately they are not indicitive of our play lately. Can't keep getting 4 goals against and expect to win

I don't disagree, but good teams find ways to win even when they aren't firing on all cylinders. That's what I like most about this team this year. Last year we found ways to lose games like the last few all the time. It was terrible and that's why we barely made the playoffs. The team this year has not always looked stellar, but again, they're still finding ways to win games, and that's the mark of a good team.

Exactly! It didn't even dawn on me until after the game that he was out.

To a lesser degree, Kindl as well.

gcom077, I agree. But the reason I believe in these kids, isn't because of highly touted they were on draft day, and not because we found some late round gems. Sure we have great scouts, but more than that, we know how to develop players. Not a single player is ever given anything, every inch has to be earned. That is why our young guys like Nyquist, Tatar, Sheahan, etc. are playing so well, and that is why I believe that guys like Mantha, Athanasiou, Sproul, etc. will be able to step in and make an impact right away. They're not being rushed into the NHL and they are learning how to do things the Red Wing way, down in Grand Rapids. I don't think our kids would be as good as they are today if they didn't spend so much time down in Grand Rapids rounding out their game. I also think Jurco may have been rushed in a little too soon, and his development has been stunted a little. I think he will be fine, but some more time with the Griffins could have done him some good.

Imagine how good we'll be when Holland makes his deadline acquisition of bringing Franzen back from IR.

Seriously though, I was talking to my dad about the Wings and the state of health this season last night. Jurco came up, Gustavsson, Howard, even Kindl. Both of us completely forgot Franzen. Now, I am an avid Franzen "disliker". Have been for a while, but it just shows in the last however many games how much he doesn't fit this line-up anymore. Fast skaters and hard workers. Guess what ole #93 sorely lacks. I hope he can get healthy and live a good life, concussions are the worst ever, but I'd be super happy if he could work his way off the team in the summer time.
