Agreed.

And depending on the return they might be right to do it. If they could get Buffalo to trade the #2 and a good young player, or Arizona to give up the 3rd and OEL, I think that wold easily be worth losing McSavior

As much as the NHL is about winning, its still a business.

Connor McDavid is not only the best player entering the draft this year (with the most potential), but he is also the most marketable player entering the draft.

No matter what, Edmonton isn't trading that asset away - even if there's a trade out there that makes the Oilers better.

Want to know what's more marketable than a player? Stanley cups. If Edmonton refuses to make moves to get better because it's less marketable then, well, they deserve to be where they are.

Why the hate on McDavid? Is it because he's a Canadian kid and Eichel is American? Why can't we just all agree they are both exceptional young hockey players?

Its not McDavid hate, its people saying eichel isn't that far behind him. More importantly, any team should be stoked to have either of them.

It doesn't matter. The Oilers aren't trading the pick. If no one agrees, I'm willing to bet 100 bucks on it. Any takers? Lol

I agree with both of you guys. They aren't going to trade the pick away. A move like that is probably WAY too ballsy for your average, risk averse, GM. I was only suggesting that it wouldn't be crazy, or even counterproductive, to do so.

By all accounts, Jack Eichel would go first in any other draft (since 2005) that didn't have Connor McDavid or Sidney Crosby in it. So losing a guy like McDavid, to get a guy like Eichel (plus significant other pieces) would very likely make you better than you'd be just keeping McDavid.

I'm jealous the Wings can't draft a player like McDavid or Eichel. But I'm happy with Larkin. Maybe McDavid and Eichel become the next Crosby and Ovechkin and Larkin becomes the next Toews. I can live with that.

Well wasn't Toews the next Yzerman, and Yzerman was the next Trottier, thus making Larkin Bryan Trottier

There are two Sebastian Ahos, we should draft them both. This team needs more Ahos. Plus, confusing.

Aho1

Aho2

The first one of those is incredibly skilled and skates like the wind, he is small however but I wouldn't mind if we gave him a shot.

No, I'M the psychic! Detroit will trade Weiss, Smith and Kindl all for more draft picks. Then they will trade their #1 for a legit D man. They won't have a #1, but will instead have multiple 2-7 round picks to choose our next wave of future players.

Or was it that they were going to sign Hamilton and give up 3 picks? Damn, I cannot keep these psychic visions from appearing!!!! It's confusing me!!!

 Seriously, I would entertain trading the #1 I it brought us that defenseman we need right now...

Don't think kindl going to dallas gets them excited enough to move back 7 spots lol .... I'm with option 2 except I'd take meloche first cause I don't think he makes it to 44 and I like him

And hopefully we can get buffalo to ship us the 21st and 51st instead of dropping to 28 although I would personally do the buffalo trade and then trade back again with tb or arizona and get 3 top 60 picks but I'm definetly with the plan of at least trading back once and getting a second rounder

Moving back 7 spots isn't a such a huge deal in such a deep draft. Obviously Kindl alone wouldn't get the trade done, and that's not what I said... I do think Kindl, Marchenko or Ouellet would peak Nill's interest, and we could add in another piece (Nastasiuk?) if it gets the deal done. Of course, I'm only interested in that move if Werenski is still available, which he may not be at that point... This is my favorite option because I believe Werenski has top pair potential, and that is what we are truly lacking in the pipeline. I'd rather add one player that projects to be a number 1-2 defenseman, then 2 players that project to be 4-5 defensemen...

I would also like to explore trading our 1st round pick plus other assets for immediate help on defense. A player like Johnson would be a huge upgrade on the back end...
