2015 Draft

Is it wrong for me to think that Holland may have a grudge against Wiz (comments Wiz made when he signed with the BJ's)?

They're both big boys. I'm sure if Holland realizes that the Wiz is our answer, he'll "forgive and forget"

Also, once he realizes that he doesn't have many takers... the Wiz will say something along the lines of:

"It has always been a hope of mine that I'd be able to play for the team in the state that I grew up in."

I'm thinking Holland will target Phaneuf.

I doubt it. The package going back wouldn't make sense now that Babs is the coach, AND Phaneuf will probably thrive under Babs anyway. His game is very conducive to Babs' style. I expect they'll hang on to Dion and see if he can recover under the new regime. Kessel, on the other hand, is toast.

Probably not much. Anaheim didn't give too much to get him in the first place, and he has a NTC. So he's got Anaheim by the balls. If he's only willing to go to a couple different teams, then there won't be a bidding war for him, and the price will stay lower. Plus, gotta think Anaheim would be happy to just clear his contract (which is way less bad than people say, but still high) off the books.

Anaheim gave a depth forward, a 2nd Round pick, and a middling prospect for him at the deadline. The price would probably be lower now, considering it's not deadline day and there aren't too many placed he's likely willing to go right now.

Think det 2015 first, 2016 fourth, trvdon or nosek for Wiz and their 2015 first gets it done?

You could probably keep the 4th.

Wiz and Anaheim's first for Detroit's first plus a quality prospect would probably do it. Let them pick the prospect (within reason).

But I'd probably try to structure something around a roster defenseman. Bringing Wiz in would necessitate moving someone out anyway.

amato, I'm assuming you really messed up what you were trying to say there or you're joking?...

I just haven't heard much of trvdon or nosek to be honest... I guess they're better than I think? I suppose the 4th is a little much assuming they want to move up in the draft.

A roster d man would be good for us to move in a possible deal for wiz but the whole reason they'd get rid of him is because they have plenty of capable roster d men right?

Don't mind me. I'm half drunk here. I was looking at Columbus' 8th overall, forgetting Wisniewski is in Anaheim... Carry on, as you were...

Hahaha okay I was confused for a second.. didn't think what I proposed was outrageous or anything. Cheers!

Yeah, probably wouldn't want a D back. Tvrdon probably doesn't have much value, but Nosek might be a piece they'd want. Center is about the closest thing to a weakness the Ducks have (aside from someone to win a big game). Not sure if Nosek projects as a center in the NHL, but he's said to be a versatile two-way guy. Good size too. They might also want a winger if they think they're going to lose Beleskey.

They don't really have a need to move Wis; they have plenty of cap space and if they want Beauchemin back they could dump Fistric instead. We may or may not need to add anything, depending on how much they want to move him and what any other teams might offer. A late pick like you suggested or someone like Andersson or Ferraro. I wouldn't want to give up more than that unless I was sure to get either Kylington or Roy (or similar) at 27, or they were sending something else back.

A bunch of ducks fans were saying that wiz isn't their worst defenseman, it was all about having a good fit with fowler, which apparently despres(I think) was much better with him than wiz.

And I don't think nosek has as much value as he holds to us.

He really helped in grand rapids this year, he's still young, and he's a pretty damn good play maker... I think he could be a really good 3rd line c, he's got good upside...

Getzlaf and Kesler at centre. Weakness? I'd take it.

Oh my bad. You said other than players with a big name.

He said other than someone who could win a big game...

That's a good point about beleskey, I forgot they're probably losing him. They'd likely want an nhl ready winger then I'd think.

And I was thinking someone like Kylington as well, assuming we were going to move back in the first round.

Does anyone know why people are projecting kylington to fall so far?

Wasn't he in the same conversation as provorov and Werenski?

I think the biggest reason is because he missed World Juniors with an injury. Also didn't play all that great afterward. Got demoted to the Swedish junior league. Also a defensive liability right now.

But he has elite skating and skill by all accounts. Good sense. Someone will be happy they grabbed him in the late first/early second.

My research of the draft prospects is pretty minimal until recently to be honest, but I've been reading about kylington a little more. I don't think he'll fall to the second, that's a bit of a stretch. I hope the wings draft him at 19 if he's still available, honestly. Or he'd at least be one of the players I'd have on my radar if I were Kenny anyway.. I think he'd end up being a steal there.

Why do you think kylington dropped? Is it just cause the injuries? I think there's a lot of good players this year so I'd personally rather trade back and get a 2nd rounder if it's possible.

And I been checking up on prospects and looking for guys with potential later on and there's a defensmen that interests me that I'd take a chance on in the 6th round ... David trinkberger , an unranked 6'5 german who's came down to play college hockey

Only article I found on him (from last October)

From what I've read it seems to be a combination of his injury, the draft being so deep, and reports that he's not sound defensively.

He's supposedly one of the highest skilled defensemen in the draft but mostly on the offensive side of the puck.. I think the wings' development style and over ripening could be exactly what he needs to be sound on both sides of the puck. That being said, I also would not be opposed to trading back and getting an extra pick in the top 60 either. Should be an exciting draft.

well probably trade back a few picks and pick up a second, and if kylingtons still there I'd be ecstatic...

There seems to be a lot of people who are really high on him.

If Kyle Connor is still available at 19(unlikely) do you guys think we should ignore our need for high end d and take him?

I've seen a few mock drafts that have him falling into the 20s somehow.

Kylington would be a great pick and I'd be content if that's who we drafted in the first but like most people, I'm hoping we trade back to get him or Roy as well as another defenseman in the 2nd. It seems like Matt Spencer is dropping quite a bit as well. I'm not sure why, but he's a player I'd be interested in, later in the 2nd (if we trade back).

If for whatever reason Kyle Conner is still available at 19, we should definitely pick him. I am 100% for picking mostly, if not all defensemen in this draft but he's a player you simply can't pass up if he drops that far. Unfortunately, I think he will go around 12-15 though, if not sooner. Imagine if Werenski were to drop back (never going to happen), but that's a player I would love to see us draft...

I'd be ecstatic if we ended up getting Werenski...

Maybe well get luck and hell stay at Michigan the next three years, then refuse to sign with his team, become a UFA and hell sign here to play with Larkin.

They're supposedly really good friends.

They are really good friends. I actually know a girl that knows and hangs out with both of them. I'll tell her to pull some strings and get him to not sign and come play here. Lol. That would be incredible
