We definitely need to take a defenseman with our first pick, most likely first couple picks. I'd go with all defenseman with the exception of maybe one center mixed in there somewhere. I really don't want to see us take a goalie and I'd be surprised if we did to be honest...

I want kylington, roy, or trade back later in the first and pick up a second rounder. A trade while picking up one of those guys would be incredible.

I'd love if we got Gabriel carlsson somehow instead of kylington ... No one will ever be lidstrom but some of the videos I seen , the way he plays reminds me of lidstrom a bit + he has size ... I also like meloche

Won't happen but I'd love it if somehow holland pulled a 19 to buffalo for 21 and 51 and then Columbus I believe have 30 and 32? Trade the 21st for that and end up with 30,32 and 51 instead of just 19

One can dream no? Lol

Turning 19 to 30, 32, & 51 would be great. I imagine we'd lose at least some sort of mid range prospect in there somewhere.

Also, I could definitely live with meloche or Carlsson. I just think that the timing of kylingtons injury may have helped the wings greatly in that he might fall to them when at the midway point he was ranked pretty high on most draft boards if I remember correctly.

Ya he was ... Would be great if we could get 2 of 3 at 30-32 :P

Personally I'd keep trading back and collect 3-4 2nd rounders if it's possible ... Been reading up a lot on prospects this year and there's a lot of guys I like

Christian jaros is a defensmen I'd be happy with in the 4-5th round I'd be happy with who plays a ton of minutes per game ... And jonas siegenthaler as well among others

Anyways defense should be the goal , forget goaltenders we got a young mrazek + patterson has potential! we drafted a goalie last year and goalies are always available in the market

We get 7 picks this year it has to be 5d's minimum , I'm obviously biased our forward prospects are pretty damn good ... Now we need the d's

I honestly have no idea if you're just trying to get a response or not but I'll humor you... I'm pretty sure you know just as well as anyone that we shouldn't be writing Mantha off after one season of pro. And either way, even without Mantha, we still have a s*** ton of young capable top 6 wingers...

And I'm sure you're just trolling with the last comment... How the hell would drafting a goalie this year allow us to trade Howard?. Makes zero sense...

Mantha is lazy and not physical, and his "great goal scoring ability" barely carried over to the minors. God knows how awful he'll be in the NHL. Who else do we have at wing? Holmstrom? He's not even in the AHL yet. After Mantha, all players are suspect.

If we take Samsonov with our first pick we can probably trade Howard for someone who can replace Franzen for us. Samsonov could probably be our #3 behind who ever is backup.

However we'll probably take Eriksson-Ek with our first.

EDIT: I don't know if you saw but we pretty much took all centers last year. Wingers couldn't hurt.

Yup, probably one of the worst transitions from junior to pro we've ever seen... I mean, 33 points in 62 games, what a bum this kid is... Who else do we have at wing? Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, Pulkkinen, Abdelkader, Helm, Athanasiou (unless he plays center at the NHL level), Bertuzzi. Holmstrom, like Athanasiou is a center but could play wing at the NHL level.

So you think Samsonov would be the starter in Grand Rapids next season? Now I know you're f***ing around...

I'm well aware of the fact that we took all centers and a goalie in last years draft. Which is why we need to concentrate fully on the back end and we definitely do not need a goaltender.

Mantha can't be written off this early. His tendency to play soft/lazy throughout his career is concerning only because he may not have that elite scoring ability but he should at least be a 20-25 goal scorer who can skate, has size and a great scoring touch

A broken heart changes a man. I have emotions just like everybody else.

Mantha's gone from "He's gonna make the team his first year as a pro and be our future top line winger" to "Well he can still probably contribute something I think" and you people are ok with that. It's pathetic and embarrassing.

Doesn't use his size, doesn't back check, and only about half his scoring translated to the minors. But yeah, I'm sure he'll be the next Rick Nash.

Samsonov is already better than fraking Tom Mccollum and Jared "I suck" Coreau

Ok, I never thought Mantha should have cracked the Wings lineup last season. I made that very clear on several occasions. He was absolutely overhyped by many on here. He is nowhere near as bad as you make him out to be though. He will definitely have a bounce back season and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him put up a point per game or close to it. He's a very skilled young player, and he will get his game back on track, not a doubt in my mind.

Who the hell is comparing him to Rick Nash? I think he still has the potential to be a Jeff Carter lite.

Samsonov probably does have a lot more potential than either of those guys, but no way he's ready to start in the American League next season. McCollum may or may not be back with the Griffins next season, but I'd much prefer have him between the pipes than an 18 year old kid, as would management, I'm sure...

We do not need a goaltender, and I will be absolutely shocked to see us break the trend of taking one every second season, to take two in back to back seasons. We still have Paterson and Perry that could become a decent American leaguer, which is all we should need for the next 10+ years with Mrazek in line to take over in the next year or so...

I seen the quote from Tyler Wright, not Ryan Martin, but yes, I would still be absolutely shocked to see us take a goaltender in this draft. He also said, we could potentially move up in the draft, or move back in the draft, he also said that the main area they're targeting is defense, particularly right handed defensemen, and he also said, despite all of that, they will always take the best player available....

Samsonov is under contract for 2 or 3 more years

Cause KHL contracts are always honored

Krsmith's crystal ball says Mantha is still great and will bounce back. Everyone place your bets now. He sucks. He even made statements about a trade suggesting he would be fine playing for a different team because that means they wanted him more. I can only defend one Franzen at a time and Mantha is the odd one out.

My Rick Nash comparison was a loose powerforward association, don't take it too literally. But yeah he was supposed to be our next 1st line powerforward. Overhyped or not he's already crapping the bed in that department.

Ryan Martin, our Assistant GM, was quoted saying they'd like to add a goaltender to the system at the draft. If you'll still be "absolutely shocked" then I'll be absolutely shocked.

Case n point. I don't realistically see us taking Samsonov. We're probably gonna take Eriksson-Ek, a center, not a D (Ohhhhhhhh noooooo), but we'll probably still take a goalie somewhere.

So basically we won't be taking a Dman in the first round.

number9's crystal ball says Mantha sucks and won't be a top 6 forward in the NHL. I would absolutely take that bet. How can he be "crapping the bed" after one (not even full) season? He's likely not going to be the next Rick Nash. What a total bust...

How the hell do you read that and get that we're not taking a defenseman in the first round? There are more quality defenseman at around 19 than any other position, but because we're going to take the best player available, it won't be a defenseman... Okay...
