Leafs Make History

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

They lost their 11th game in a row last night, the most ever in team history. And with the Leafs, that's means something since they have quite a long history,,,most losses in a row in the last 100 years.

Edit....the joke was, going into last night's game.....the last time they had lost 10 games in a row was the last year they won the cup.

How can a team with Kessel, Bozak (solid 2c), Phaneuf, JVR, Rielly, Bernier, Reimer and Gardiner be that bad ? I thought it was all the fault of - FUN to watch - former fourth line ? Guess not.

I think most players of the core know the time is up and some might be even happy to get traded.

JVR please :D

Save for Dekeyser, Mantha and Larkin no prospect should be off the table if this guy is really available, big, strong and physical power-forward with a great cap-hit.

Leafs fans are already talking about that cocky Nylander guy being their next first line center, yup a guy who hasn't played 1 game in the NHL till now...talk about putting unreasonable expectations on those guys. Leafs have a lot of pieces I'd be interested in (JVR, Rielly, McLaren, Broll) Broll as a fourth line power forward and McLaren as insurance when we play Boston, Ottawa or the Blues.

Yeah, David Broll would be awesome to have on this team, from the Leafs, too bad he was just traded along with Carter Ashton for a 2016 conditional 7th round draft pick... He was awesome with the Marlies prior to the trade though, 0 points in 21 games as an American Leaguer, what's not to like about this kid... TRUCULANCE!!!

There was a time when I felt bad for Leafs fans. A couple of Toronto-fan friends of mine some of the more knowledgeable and passionate fans I know. Then Detroit lost that back-to-back in the middle of December and I got texts, FB messages and tweets from people I hadn't heard from in legitimately over a year, going on about how great Toronto is now/how they knew Detroit was on the decline.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this. I hope they split the rest of the season between wins and losses, and end up with somewhere around the 8th-10th pick.

4 liner...how often do I have to repeat that ?

Didn't know he has been traded and yeah a 7 rounder is a steal for that kid. Here's a video of the kid yup totally not worht a 7 rounder right ?

Frank, a good NHL forth liner should still be able to at least look somewhat decent in the AHL. Luke Glendening was a point per game player in the minors. Mitch Callahan is closing in on that now, and would be a MUCH better option on our forth line than David ******* Broll... He is a scrub.

Also, how the hell does that video make him worth a 7th rounder?? LOL

I'd bet this is the lowest point in the Leafs history. They don't have a clue how the cap works, their core players are all overpaid and signed for at least 4 years, there's no way they'll get rid of any of them. There's no good young players coming up. For them to turn it around and build a contender, it'll take 12 years.

I just don't understand how any pro sports franchise can be run so poorly. I mean, I know there's only a 1 in 30 shot of winning the Cup every year, but you have over a 50% chance of being a playoff team. It just doesn't seem that hard to put together a roughly competent team once in a while, yet some teams in each sport do so regularly.

Well it all starts at the top, Bell and Rogers can't stand each other and there are way too many unknown positions. I wouldn't be surprised if some management people don't know who is responsible for what.

Also this team has gone through a lot of philosophy changes in a small amount of time. There was absolutely no reason to change the course after the successful lockout season.. Yeah they've lost against Boston in unbelievable fashion but so what? Dig deep and come back stronger next year. No need to change a working system.

Even as a fan of an opposing fan the leafs where fun to watch that year... and then bring in Shanghai, with him a philosophy change and that Dubas guy who both have to learn at the job.

But even with all of that this isn't a bad team on paper maybe the pressure is too much and some of their core guys just want out. I mean, at some point every player has to be fed-up with being constantly blamed in the media or in trade talks.

Shanahan should have allowed Carlyle to build a Carlyle type of team instead of expecting a different playstyle without a having the right players for it.
