OEL Poll: Would you do it?

Last night's game against the 'Yotes was a great opportunity to watch Oliver Ekman-Larson and he might be the closest thing to Lidstrom I've seen since #5 hung em up. He would fit in with the Wings room and system quite well and would slot everyone else down to where they probably should be. He's only 23, has a 5.5 cap hit and is signed through the 2018/19 season. As much as I would love the Wings to acquire a complementary piece (Petry, Franson), what they really need is a replacement for #5. We've got some good D prospects coming up, but they all appear to be 2nd/3rd pairing guys. We need a true #1 guy again.

OEL won't come cheap, he leads all defencmen in goals, his cap hit is reasonable. and he's signed long term. I would love to see Kenny offer: Mantha/a D prospect of the Yotes choice/1st round pick.

Would you make that trade? Do you think it's enough to pry OEL away from AZ?

I'll tabulate the results after a few days, I'm curious to see if I've really over-valued OEL based on his offence or if others think he will develop into a player of Lidstrom's caliber or not.

If I was gm there it would take a lot to move him. He is good, although the Lidstrom talk is a bit much, and I'd be building my team around him. It would take one of Tatar, Nyquist, or Dekeyser, 2 of Mantha, Larkin, and Sproul, another decent prospect, a first rounder and another pick or prospect before I'd consider it.

You are undervaluing our players and overvaluing oel's return price.

I have a cornerstone defenseman who is 23 and signed for a good contract through the 18/19 season. I'm not going to trade him for anything less than a king's ransom. I want a good young roster player, 2 top prospects who should be NHL ready sooner rather than later, a high draft pick, plus more assets or I don't trade him. Since there's no need to move him, unless he has privately asked me to trade him and will go public with his demand if I can't get it done, I can demand that much and just keep him if I can't get what I want.

I'd trade Mantha/a D prospect of the Yotes choice/1st round pick for OEL but I don't think the yotes take it. Add in another first rounder and good prospect and they might but I don't know if I would.

I think anything oel goes for until he's a pending ufa (if he doesn't want to stay there) is going to be more than I'd want the wings to pay.

Mrazek, oullette, Mantha, and two first round picks probably gets the conversation started.. I don't think there's anything that actually gets a deal done that any other GM would actually do though.

So yea, I agree basically.. Maybe in my nhl 15, the wings trade for OEL....

Sadly he is not available and the Coyotes would be stupid to trade him, a 23 year old stud who hasn't even reached his prime yet.

They are going to enter the rebuild phase with him as a cornerstone. That being said Mantha + a D prospect wouldn't even get the conversation started (if he were available), more like Mantha + Tatar/Nquist + defensive prospect (XO preferably) + a first.
