PavelValerievichDatsyuk 1,935 Report post Posted February 10, 2015 I've said this before, but this whole signing with a team just to retire thing is stupid. If he retired with some other team, I would still associate him with the Sharks more than any other team when looking back at my memories of him. It is a symbolic gesture, but think it's very meaningful for certain players. They chose to not resign Nabokov, which is a bit of a FU to a guy that was important to the franchise. I'm sure there were some hurt feelings - is a nice way for the player to be re-embraced by the team and fanbase. Think of the bad circumstances that Modano, Alfredsson have left teams. They mended the hurt feelings with the Modano situation and now he works for them. Would have liked Fedorov to have been signed for a day so he could retire with us. I feel like there hasn't been much of an opportunity for fans to celebrate him since he left under those bad circumstances (maybe a bit at the winter Classic). It's a small thing, but I think it's nice way tie up a player's legacy with a team and help mend rifts.

kipwinger 8,522 Report post Posted February 11, 2015 I've never thought of San Jose as a particularly s***ty, or classy, organization. I think of them the way I think about how water tastes. Which is to say I don't. Why are they a s***ty organization?
cnot19 191 Report post Posted February 11, 2015 I am a big fan of Nabokov he became a solid part of the islanders org after he was pissy for a little while. His style did allow for softies at times but also allowed him to make some crazy saves

RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted February 13, 2015 Still remembered a few years ago when we were in for Nabokov when he got put on waivers but the Islanders picked him up. Oh well, all's well that ends well.
chaps80 1,591 Report post Posted February 14, 2015 Nabby was a hell of a goalie in his prime. Another great goalie retiring without ever hoisting the cup. It still kinda burns me that he was signed and ready to come to Detroit, but the Isles plucked him. Don't blame him for acting how he did after that either. You sign with a team you want to play for, then some bottom feeder(at the time) says "uhhh nah, your gonna play for us instead." He eventually gave in cause he pretty much had to, and we all knew he'd get claimed, was just too good to be true he was coming to Detroit for league minimum lol but it was a s***ty thing to happen for sure. Either way, cheers Nabby, enjoy your retirement!! Who am I looking at here? Couple Russians and some Canadian guy.
matt198913 932 Report post Posted February 15, 2015 Fransons gone only D I would have given away a 1rst rounder for not named OEL. Add a depth forward for cheap. McClement would be my choice. Let XO and Marchenko battle out for 6th spot.
