I've been watching the Devils for a few games now and Zidlicky still seems to be the only guy playing smart and playing hard on a bad team. Tonight vs Edmonton without his positioning when others were running around the Oilers could have won by 3 or 4. I like his passing. He's solid, a RIGHT HANDED shot and a free agent at the end of the year. I cannot imagine a 38 year old would cost a prime young player or anything more really than a second or third round pick, especially in NJ where a draft pick costs nothing and even a fourth line player has a salary.

Thoughts?

He's always been a real gud puck mover. My only worry is we acquire him and he gets injured down the stretch or in the playoffs. He hasn't played even close to a full season since 2009-10.

Well he's been playing 20 minutes + a night and they're using him in all special team situations so I think he's versatile enough to maybe eat some minutes down the stretch and could be a nice insurance policy.

And my interest is a veteran guy who won't wet himself if thrown into a game 6 and won't cost much unless the Wings land a Tyler Myers etc.

If we can land him for cheap I'd be happy

I'd be fine offering them a fourth round pick, but not much else.

Maybe.

A conditional third.

And what are our plans with kindl, keep him around for the depth, or just drop him into Arizona.

Because I would like to get zidlicky if nothing else comes through...

I think a 1st is stretching it, but I could see someone sending a 2nd over. If some of the bigger names out there are being moved, Zidlicky could be a good under the radar pick-up while all of that is going on. He's certainly not the prettiest princess at the ball, but he's a still a solid defender.

Have there been any reports linking Zidlicky to Detroit... or anywhere, for that matter? It seems like New Jersey has been quiet, despite them being a sure-fire seller at the deadline. Their prospect cupboard is U.G.L.Y.

What do they even have worth selling that anyone might want?

My thoughts are.

Good call.
