I don't think this lawsuit is a joke. Hockey for years was using violence and head shots to promote their game.

I do give the NHL credit for cleaning up the game. I don't miss the fights at all, especially after I read about the physical pain McCarty is experiencing now after years of fighting. It's not worth it.

Its a joke because almost everyone I've seen attached to it is a career minor league player who had minimal time in the NHL and the lawyer who wrote the brief knows nothing about hockey and said something about Gordie Howe being dead.

It makes sense that those looking for damages would be those that had struggling careers that were hurt by concussions rather than those who had thriving careers and made millions.

A lot of the guys played hundreds of minor league games and maybe 40 NHL games. It would make sense to sue the other leagues instead.

Okay, so I didn't know many of the hockey players listed so I was going to allow your "minimal time in the NHL" claim. But then I looked into the story...

Greg Adams 1056 NHL games

Rick Berry 197 NHL games

Richard Brodeur 4 NHL Seasons, 7 WHA seasons

Shawn Chambers 625 NHL games

Todd Elk 448 NHL games

Robert “Butch” Goring 1107 Games

Mark Hardy 915 NHL games

Michael Hartman 397 NHL Games

Todd Harvey 671 NHL Games

Garry Howatt 720 NHL Games

Dave Hutchinson 584 NHL Games

Edward Kennedy 696 NHL Games

Mike Lalor 687 NHL Games

Darren Langdon 521 NHL Games

Manny Legace 365 NHL Games

Jamie Lundmark 295 NHL Games

Sergio Momesso 710 NHL Games

Stephen Patrick 455 NHL Games

Craig Redmond 191 NHL Games

Terry Ruskowski 630 NHL Games

Brian Savage 674 NHL Games

Turner Stevenson 644 NHL Games

German Titov 624 NHL Games

Todd Warriner 453 NHL Games

Vernon Westfall 1226 NHL Games

Shortest NHL careers in the list:

Jeff Parker 141

Tony Horacek 154 NHL Games

Jean Francois Jomphe 111 NHL Games

Jeffrey Shevalier 32 NHL Games (only one that fits your characterization)

Concussions can have serious consequences in someone's life. The NHL didn't guard players as they are attempting to do now. We've heard the horror stories from Probert to McCarty, etc. These players may have had horrible experiences. I think they deserve to be taken seriously. At the least, find out about the story before you discount them and spread misinformation.

Those guys must have come on board later. Last I saw the guys at the bottom of that list were the most prominent names.

Nope. As the article at the top of this thread says (you should read it before you react so strongly to it), all 29 of those players are newly added to the lawsuit.

The original lawsuit was in November 2013 and started with 10 players

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/nhl-faces-concussion-lawsuit-10-former-players-allege-230857047--nhl.html

According to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, the players are Gary Leeman(667 games, 1982-97), Brad Aitken (14 games, 1990-91), Darren Banks (20 NHL games, 1992-94), Curt Bennett (580 NHL games, 1970-80), Richard Dunn, Warren Holmes, Bob Manno (371 games, 1976-85), Blair Stewart (229 games, 1973-80), Morris Titanic (19 games, 1974-76) and Rick Vaive (876 games, 1979-92)

Soon after, Bernie Nichols (1127 games) joined in.

The lawsuit grew to over 200 names.

Now, these 29 players have been added.
