Franson to Preds

Never was a huge fan of getting Franson relative to the price. I just think he was more desirable for the Red Wings being a righty, but beyond that, I haven't seen anything that makes him that special.

I'm all in for Yandle, though. (Even being a lefty.)

I am not surprised, the inter-divsional thing is too risky. I don't know too much about him, but serious, other than being RH'd, is he that much better than anyone we have? I think if he were the be all end all in RH'd guys, TO would have given him a ton more money in their last offer. That being said, if the price remained just a 2nd and a "good" prospect, Franson would have been nice here, but with the added players, I think it was just too rich of a deal. We don't need all that going on, we just need to address a certain need.

So, does that put us deeper in the Petry court? Or can we expect a bigger trade?

Well Nashville is set up for a nice run and the Leafs would have been really dumb to trade him to a divisional opponent.

So Dreger was right with his projection of the asking price

Franson would have been nice big rugged gritty defender who would have given this team finally a physical presence.

This. I don't think that Franson would have been a significant improvement for us. He's a very good second pair defenseman, but we already have 2-3 of these.

I really don't want to see a blockbuster trade involving the Wings. While they may not be an elite team, Holland has proven that he can build this team through the draft. No one really out there that's available that would really be worth selling the farm for.

Meh.

Good trade for the Preds. Still not sold on them making a run, but good on them for trying. Man Poille loves to wheel and deal eh?

With all these early deals, the deadline is going to be sloooooooooow. Be prepared for TSN and Sportsnet to cleave their way into Eklund territory just to generate content.

1st round pick was too high a price, and with Toronto in our division, it would have been higher.

I don't remember who it was, but someone had some interesting speculation regarding any Toronto-to-Detroit trade. They said that above and beyond the traditional conference rival issues, there's also the whole "Mike Babcock to Toronto" issue as well. If Toronto wants any shot at landing Babs, they have to hope Detroit loses out early in the playoffs. As such, they won't be interested in sending Detroit any player that might help them make a deeper run, since that would significantly lessen the chances that Babcock leaves.

That deal makes O Jokinen the first european player to play for 9 different NHL teams, now hes in the dumpster where he belongs.

LAK, Islanders, Panthers, Phoenix, Flames, Rangers, Winnipeg, NSH and now Leafs...

That's actually a very good point and for sure the price would have been even higher if they traded him inter divisional

The guy is still going to be a UFA, we could still get him. But if he is asking for 6mil a year, I dont want him. I've watched him play in plenty of Leafs games being in Canada and he is not an elite D-man.

Giving up a first round pick seems a little steep, especially if TO would have wanted more due to it being the Wings. The way I look at it, if this was a year ago and we make the trade, that means we are trading our chance at Larkin for Frason (as a rental), not something I think anyone here would want to do.

Good Pass.

Bit of a surprise but I agree the price was too steep for what he'd bring to the Wings, and I concur it would have been even steeper for the Wings. He's a good fit for the Preda, though. Looks like they're planning to make a serious run in the postseason.

Overall, the Leafs got fleeced, though. If that continues, after their fire sale, it could be really ugly for the white and blue.
