In what secret reports are calling a clavicle/collarbone "issue" Kane could be out a while:

Patrick Kane Injured, Could Be Out A Long While

If you're a Chicago sports fan, you are not reading this, because there's no way you're getting out of bed today. On the same night the city realized that Derrick Rose will never ever be the same again, Blackhawks star Patrick Kane went down with an injury that could reportedly keep him out deep into the playoffs.

if his injury keeps him out until the start off playoffs, where there's no salary cap, the hawks could potentially have an impossibly good roster by then if they're willing to give up the assets

kind of a gamble but his cap hit being on LTIR certainly gives them plenty of cap room just in time for the deadline.

Looks like absolutely zero impact to his midsection from the touch. No change in direction or momentum whatsoever. Put me on record stating injury was a result of his embellishment.

It's amazing the abuse the Wings were able to withstand last night vs the Kings, yet Kane goes down from that?

I'm starting to think the league needs to implement a zero tolerance on hits from behind. Auto one game suspension, but only on plays where it was avoidable. This play needs to be removed from hockey. Going into the boards like that the slightest amount of contact can cause you to lose an edge. Redmond was just on 105.1 talking about the same thing. That will never happen though they're still trying to eliminate head shots, but gloved punches to the head are perfectly acceptable.

I was all prepared to feel bad for Kane*, but on watching the play, Petrovic basically did diddly squat. Not sure what caused Kane to fall, but it certainly wasn't another player. Maybe his skate caught a chip in the ice? And OMG the announcers! 'Nasty hit from behind"? Pffffffft. I really need to apply for an announcing job. I can make s*** up as well as anyone else.

*Not really, but ya know.

Long as the player(s) they pick up are UFA. If not, they'd have to do some scrambling before next season to get Kane back in and be under the cap. Plus either way they lose whatever assets they gave up to fetch those guys. I guess it could be worth it for a shot at another cup, especially if Kane gets back while they're still playing...

But this one wasn't even a hit - It was a crosscheck. You'd have to make a zero tolerance policy for any contact from behind to stop this one which would be ridiculous.

I think this was just an awkward fall and an unlikely break (sorry for the horrible pun).

I won't say it was a classic hit from behind. The stick crossed Kane's oblique, with a majority of it occurring at the pant side stripe.

His left foot drags and leg goes limp for no understandable reason except that he let it.

Barely touched Kane, but if you're not strong on your skates, that happens... I didn't consider it a "nasty" hit. Seen much much worse done to Wings, and no call, no nothing. The no-discipline decision tells that tale here.

So, you play hockey and you get hurt sometimes. He fell awkwardly, unfortunately.

Hate to see any player hurt, but I didn't see anything that awful about what Petrovic did... or barely did, in this case.
