Avs Coach Roy Not Brightest Bulb

I tried coming up with a clever title haha.

Anyways last night against the Preds the Avs were down 4-1 with a little over 12 minutes left in the 3rd. Preds take a penalty and Roy pulled his goalie to make it a 6 on 4. They got scored on of course and end up losing 5-2.

This is something you do in NHL 15. If I'm an Avs fan I would be so pissed at this guy. Doing this stuff makes your team worse IMO.

Thoughts?

I like that he tried it ... nothing to lose (who cares if you lose 4-1 or 6-2) and you could spark the team up for a lucky come back.

Yeah but getting 2 goals in 12 minutes without pulling your goalie is far from unheard of

Getting 2 goals in 12 minutes is not unheard of, but unfortunately, that would have still left them down 4-3. The fact is, it would be extremely, extremely rare for a team to come back from a 4-1 score halfway through the 3rd period. Not impossible, but it's not like it happens every week. That's really what I don't like about the NHL...so hard to score goals these days (again).

So, bold move by Roy for sure, but I'd be willing to bet most coaches would have just accepted defeat at that point, at least he was thinking outside the box.

Sure it don't happen every week but it can happen. You get one back, then two and you start to build momentum and who knows? I mean that's what happen with the Ducks when they played the Wings. Built momentum in the 3rd.

Losing 4-1 is more irritating than trying something creative to address it. 99 times out of 100 if you're losing 4-1 in the third, the game is over. The coaches, fans, and players know it. So why not try? Maybe you get one quick and your boys liven up a little bit? I don't see how losing 5-1 on an empty netter is worse than losing 4-1 because your guys have called it quits for the night.

That was 2 games in a row we got scored on 3 times in about 3 minutes.

Yes, but if you pull your goalie and score quick, that's the spark. You put your goalie back in and build from there. Can't STAND Roy, but I appreciate his risk-taking. Kinda like going for the 2-point conversion - teams should do it more often.

Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained, I like it.

At least he is trying to do something... a power play goal here a lucky bounce there then your down by 1 with 2 minutes to go, if they were playing Detroit you know Howard would let one in with 40 seconds to go then your off to OT

All they would have to do is crash our net.

Most times that's a goal.

If they were playing the Leafs they could have come back
