Red Wings acquire Erik Cole, conditional 3rd from Stars

Why? I was reading he got frustrated and went home to Sweden. For the second year in a row Kenny got something in return for a player who was :crybaby:

I'm not sure that's accurate, with regard to Jarnkrok. It seemed to pretty much come out of nowhere. Either way, it's not worth dwelling over. I haven't seen anything from Jarnkrok that makes me feel like we're really going to miss him.

That's why he got traded from Montreal... Because he was playing in your face gritty hockey and was loved bu his coaches... Yeah right...

Jurco for Petry is not going to happen.

So... he's not gritty because a team traded him? Huh?

He's got 116 hits in 57 games with Dallas this year. Most of his goals are scored right in front of the net. Cole's going to provide a solid net-front presence.

Yea the 2nd rounder hurts a little but getting back a 3rd makes it alot better. Especially when Chicago had go give up a 1st for Vermette. We didn't give up our 1st or any of our top Forward or Defensive prospects to get a player that rounds out our top 6. Amazing deal.

Hopefully Dallas gets to keep that third :)

Edit:

Oh wait, my mistake, Backman went home. Still, Janmark is 22, just like Jarnkrok, he should have played a game or 2 on the Wings by now... Good trade.

I agree it was a good trade, I just knew people would be mad. And they are.

Nope, I just realize you have to give up something in a trade to get something back. Cole is a rental. We all know this going in. The team is preparing for a playoff run. We gave up next to nothing in this deal. The 2nd rounder holds more value than either of the two prospects, really. They are 2 long shots and being impact NHLers. Such players hold little trade value.

Cole is a rental yes but he's also 36yrs old and on the decline and has back issues (guessing that's why the stipulation is he has to play half the games if we make it to the eastern finals)

You could be right I might get attached to some guys ... I don't love all our prospects but I was high on janmarks potential and I guess I'd rather keep a 22 yr old kid who's one of the top scorers in back to back seasons and give away another 3rd rounder say next year than of included him

But if I had to guess jim Nill asked for him and with good reason

Anyways well see how janmark ends up ... My own prediction is they'll both be in the ahl next year and in dallas in 2 seasons and then we see what happens

Let's just hope cole works out for us I know he'll be good here so long he's healthy

Backman was a long shot to ever play in Detroit and Janmark might end up as a second or third line center in 3 years. Cole helps now and the Wings have plenty of prospects as good or better than the kids they traded. This is a good trade all around.

Don't see why not. Can't remember ever seeing that number on a Wings jersey.

I know he wore 26 with Carolina during the cup run, but I think he had to switch to 72 because someone else was wearing it for MTL and DAL. Jurco wears 26 for us.

Im starting to feel better about the trade but I hate when its said that because someone is a long shot, its ok that we used them to over pay. Backman was still a pretty well regarded prospect. I bet Nill thinks very highly of him...and probably Janmark too. I bet Poile is thrilled with Jarnkrok...another player that was supposedly "blocked"...and somehow therefore not worth getting back true value for.

They'll both be in Dallas's lineup in 2 yrs ... We see what they do after

I've followed Jarnkrok's time with Nashville this year, out of curiosity. They played him under 10 minutes for a good part of the year and he still has better numbers than most teams 4th liners. Just wait, Jarnkrok is far from done.

I, for one, don't understand why Holland routinely pays higher prices than all other teams for his acquisitions. Not only that...youd think we'd get at least a decent deal out of Yzerman or Nill...but it seems like they are more than happy to deal with Holland, and for good reason. Two decent prospects AND a 2nd for a 36 year old UFA? Two years ago the Stars couldn't of gave him away. Jarnkrok, by himself, is an overpayment for Legwand. Quincey was no where near worth a 1st. Everyone knew those things, the prices that were paid last year were 75% of what we gave for Legwand and it's basically the same this year. I've been nervous for a week, basically knowing we'd make a deal and knowing Holland would over pay. Im terrified that we'll get a good defenseman and trade a really good player.

Are we going to resign Cole? It doesn't seem like it the way the roster is built. Everyone knew we wouldn't resign Legwand, and we shouldn't of...and we gave Jarnkrok for him and for a 1st round exit. I don't think we'll resign Cole, and is he really the piece that will put us over the edge? I think the dman that we should get is a bigger deal...and now we have 2 less prospects and Holland's favorite pick to trade off the table. The only guys left to trade are scary ones to lose.

Have you seen what other teams are paying this year?

This is a fair deal both ways.

And we had to make room for all the centers we drafted last year to come into the system.

Holmstrom, ehn, vahatalo, kadeykin, and turgeon.

Janmark isn't worth all this griping.
