I guess I'm saying trust me on Zidlicky, you'll like him. You'll note little smart things he does. He settles plays in his own end well. I've been watching his game over the last couple months and he does the right things at the right time.

Well two things to remember, helm and marchenko out for a week to ten days, two we have no limit on the players we carry on roster, soo with that said when marchenko gets back expect kindl and quinsy to be waived or scratched, kronner-e,

lol I just noticed your sig. Whoever typed that must have been drunk as f***. Or huffing gas.

That was one of the all-time best drunk posts on the forum.

On topic: I like the Zidlicky signing. Not too costly, and, more importantly, we keep our high end prospects. I agree that it is a band-aid fix, not a long-term solution. I think he will help the PP more than a lot of people think.

Quincey has that bone spur issue - they may give him some time to alleviate it. Smith-Kronwall, DeKeyser-Marchenko, Zidlicky-Ericsson could be interesting pairings. Kronwall-Zidlicky on the PP would be effective, I think.

I thought I read Quincey is expected to play Wednesday, I could be wrong

This is correct and a great point. A lot of these people who want superstar player X because he scores this many goals and this many assists, that's not all that goes into a GM's decision. They don't make trades just by looking at stats on nhl.com

If Detroit got Mike Green in the offseaon, great! Babcock would have a full season to teach him the required defensive responsibilities of the game, the system and the team. One thing to think about, besides his offense, Green's hockey IQ might bot be that high. He might not learn the defensive side of detroit's system before the playoffs. Shooting and scoring come naturally to Green, where defense doesn't. Zidlicky might put up some numbers, but he will for sure be in the right place at the right time defensively, and when you only have 20 games to settle in, the defensive responsibility is a lot more important to have. I hope that made some sense.

Lamoriello said there were other offers for Zidlcky and "better" offers, but because of no trade, Zidlicky had control where he went.

But.... but.... nobody wants to come here!

Getting two vets may be helpful in the postseason. If you remember in playoffs last year against Boston; the young players quickly got shutdown when they got a taste of some real playoff hockey. Adding this age balance will help the core group as a whole for a deep playoff push. We def needed another veteran D-man imo.

I like the two moves they got considerably better for this years playoff run and all they really traded was things that they already have too many of; non-NHL ready prospects (not top 5 picks that will get you guys like Jack Eickel ready to hit the NHL right away) that are still a couple of years away from making the NHL roster/draft picks that probably won't net NHL ready players so that would be the same thing.

Detroit didn't give away any prospects that are already showing NHL potential (Nyquist, Tatar) OR their elite prospects Larkin, Mantha etc. The ones they did probably weren't going to see the NHL ice for years and at best would've been 4th liners probably. Detroit was headed towards having so many prospects they eventually couldn't have roster spots/salary cap for all of them so it makes sense to trade them for short term gains rather than risk losing them down the road (still would've been nice if Detroit had managed to pool a bunch of their bottom prospects, like the two they gave for Cole and a couple high picks for a top 4 D man but realistically the team would've still run into salary issues I think either next year or year after a bunch of guys need to be resigned).

True they didn't get any long term fixes but those are just too expensive in the current free agent market. I still wouldn't mind seeing if they could package a guy like Jurco or Andersson if they could get a team to buy high on one of their young players that isn't developing as fast as Nyquist and Tatar. Or trade one of their goalies (Gus if they don't plan on bringing him back next year or Howard)

Well I can get onboard with this, thank god kenny did address the "d" issue. However not sure we couldn't of done a little better after all Yandle was a 2nd round pick, a good prospect, a conditional first and a spare part. We could have parted with something close to that for a long term fix, I understand Yandle was not that guy because he's a LH, but maybe someone else. I would have preferred Stewart and Wis this deadline but what's done is done. I guess after the Minny - Colorado dustup (see hockeyfights for the 2 fights in that game and Avs gooning it up) Minny decide to bring in someone who could fight. Lots of teams gearing up for the playoffs going to be an interesting month and playoffs. Lets get the engine running boys and hit the playoffs on a roll and forget about the "switch". Go Wings!

What was Colaiacavo's number when he was a Wing?

Barry Salovaara, Reed Larson, Dale Krentz, Brent Fedyk, Bob Wilkie, Sheldon Kennedy, Dallas Drake, Tomas Sandstrom, Yan Golubovsky, Steve Duchesne, Kevin Miller, Tomas Kopecky, Brian Rafalski

the last one on that list is good enough.

This definitely is the best option if we wanted to bolster up our Blueline. We are not committed with him if he somehow doesn't fit and payed almost nothing to get him here. It's like yesterdays a no risk, high reward trade and looking what others teams did these days I'm very glad to have Kenny at the helm. The future is still bright and with the addition of Cole and Zidlicky maybe the present is already brighter than we all imagine.

It also gives us all the options in the offseason, for example we're still able to pursue Green, this time with the reputation as a legit contender. Well done Mr. Holland.
