Helm injury update and a very good one too

This. I want him on the fourth line not because I hate him on the first, but because he makes the fourth so much better. There was one point where I thought we had an incredible fourth line when I watched them match up against other teams', now I cringe whenever they're out there.

Yupp. When the 4th line was Miller-Glendening-Jurco, they were a match up problem because they could skate and cycle the puck. When Helm comes back, I hope that's what Babs uses.

I'm aware the chances are that he won't continuously put up points.

My question was, if he put up a point every other game, would you object to him staying there.

I get that it seems crazy to have a prototypical 4th line c as a first line winger, I understand that.

If he scores or is directly involved the scoring at a .50 ppg was the context of the question.

Whether or not it was a fluke that he scored, or a soft goal, or any other knock against him being on datsyuks wing is irrelevant.

that's an odd question.

If he scored if every other game he would be a 40 goal scorer, and making 7 million dollars. Of course he'd be on the first line.

last time we had a guy even close to that good, we signed Franzen instead.

I don't blame management for taking Franzen over Hossa at the time. Franzen is a better cap hit but Hossa is a much better all around player. Hossa didn't exactly light it up for us in the Stanley Cup Finals either. Franzen was absolutely tearing up the NHL and all those goals in March of 08 were insane. He single handedly destroyed Colorado that year in the playoffs. Great times indeed. Not saying I'm happy with his contract now though. Career never really flourished like we all thought it would. All well...hopefully Helm will be back soon. We could use his energy. We haven't been fun to watch the past few weeks.

He said point, not goal. he is there to win the corner battles, get the puck bacck to Dats and Tatar to score. Glenny working his arse off could increase possesion time and O zone startss for the first line. If this process results in Glenny gettting 1st or 2nd assist once every other game, (hence 0.5ppg) do you keep him there?

Its an interesting line combo: Instead of having Glenny in a shutdown roll vs opponents top line, flanked by Miller/Andy, now hes flanked by Selke winner Datsyuk, two awesome defensive forwards. Add Tatar, and now our shut down duo is now a major offensive threat for opponents O line to worry about.

And with Glenny retrieving, Dats stealing and controling the puck with Tatar, oopponents O line may not have any significant time with the puck.

Babcock been drinking a lot of coffee, pouring over advanced stats, theorizing innovative line combos?

Quit blaming the line combos on Babcock's perceived insanity. Pavel ASKED for Glendening.

Can we all just trust that the PROFESSIONALS usually have a really good idea what they're doing?

Edit: forgot the link: http://redwings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=757736&navid=DL|DET|home

DETROITPavel Datsyuk has done it before, taking replaceable fourth liners and making them into valuable additions to the Red Wings’ top scoring line.

His latest reclamation project is Luke Glendening, the gritty fourth-line center who has arguably been the team’s most trustworthy penalty killer this season.

Pav wanted someone to work,” coach Mike Babcock said when asked about Glendening’s ascent. "He’s the guy who said ‘Put Glennie with me.’ So I put Glennie with him.”

Glendening is the latest bottom-six forward to join Datsyuk on the Wings’ top line, following Justin Abdelkader and Darren Helm, amongst others, who in the past worked as reliable puck retrievers for the Magic Man.

The guys over at Winging It In Motown are having a s*** fit on Twitter right now about Glendening on the first line. About six tweets in a row addressing it. I haven't seen this much indignation since Malik decided to address the Babcock to Toronto speculation. And then address it again. And again. And again. And again.

Why did Babs ever seperate Nyquist and Z

I think it was because Nyquist was on a major cold streak and Z needed a winger to score goals. Although Abby ended up being the one producing instead of Cole as Babs wanted.

Regardless a break from top line cud have helped Nyquist. Hopefully Z and goose stay together and do some good work.

I know this isn't the plan...

Would it be worth while too give Helm just one more week. With his past... It wouldn't hurt.

Helm's problems haven't been due to him coming back too soon. He's had a bunch of unrelated injuries. I'm sure if they say he's back, he's ready. He's an important player for us and I want him back ASAP especially as we're setting the stage for the playoffs.

True.. And I agree... This time of year players have a tendency to come back too early. And with his string of bad luck, getting hurt at key times, I don't think it would hurt anyone keeping him out the weekend.

There are plenty of points to be had before the playoffs.
