kipwinger 8,520 Report post Posted March 4, 2015 Retaining half the cap is probably the only way the rags would've included duclair too.. whether they could've fit yandle under the cap or not. Obtaining him probably had something to do with the yotes' motivation for retaining half the cap hit. He's going to look great with domi.. and potentially one of McEichel. The coyotes have a real good chance to build a long term contender in a few years or so if they do it right. Not after Old Man Doan squashes them with one of his patented body checks. Gotta let these little punks know you don't get anything easy on the Arizona Coyotes roster. It's Doan's way, or the broken bones way! 1 amato reacted to this

MrazekFanBoy 223 Report post Posted March 4, 2015 "We really like Marchenko," Babcock said. "Marchenko is a real good player and he has played very well for us. You can never have too many D men at this time of the year. We wanted to make sure we had enough hands on deck. We're going to make sure he's playing." Like i said babs really wants Zids and Marchenko both in the line up

Gotta link? http://www.nhl.com/ice/blogpost.htm?id=37665 I feel like this might have been taken out of context, though. Didn't Babs just say that he wanted Marchenko to play here OR go back down and play in the AHL - just not sitting as the 7th defender? I feel like NHL only used part of the quote. Edit: Holland said it, not Babcock. Edited March 4, 2015 by Jesusberg

No, Holland said that in a radio interview yesterday. Babs' comments here are different, but shouldn't come as a surprise considering he's made his preferences clear in the past. 1 Jesusberg reacted to this

Must've been what I was thinking. Holland says of Marchenko, "I want him in the lineup, or I want him playing in Grand Rapids...I'd rather have them [young players] playing than being here and practicing" So... consensus pick for the healthy scratch on defense = Smith? Maybe he can start a wrestling career and re-form the Motor City Machine Guns. Edited March 4, 2015 by Jesusberg
kipwinger 8,520 Report post Posted March 4, 2015 Yeah. I just found the quote. You posted it yesterday, actually. Must've been what I was thinking. Holland says of Marchenko, "I want him in the lineup, or I want him playing in Grand Rapids...I'd rather have them [young players] playing than being here and practicing" For sure. In a second part of that interview, Holland made clear that it was Babs' decision on whether to keep Marchenko up and play him, or send him back to GR (as he did with Pulkkinen). Not that it guarantees anything, but when you start putting comments together you can maybe get a glimpse of what the the organization is thinking as far as the defensive pairings. They've said in the past that ideally they'd like all three pairings to be lefty-righty. Then Holland says he doesn't want Marchenko sitting, but that where he plays is Babs' decision. And then Babs' says "we're going to make sure he's playing". That may be an indication that he wants Marchenko AND Zidlicky in the lineup. Meaning that two of the six lefties will need to sit. So... consensus pick for the healthy scratch on defense = Smith? Maybe he can start a wrestling career and re-form the Motor City Machine Guns. Youtubing Motor City Machine Guns right now lol. As far as who's scratched, I'd imagine injuries will make a lot of those decisions for Babs. We're relatively healthy now, but I can't imagine that down the stretch the wear and tear of the season won't begin to show more.
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) Zero percent chance any of Kronwall, Ericsson, DeKeyser, Quincey or Smith sit in favor of Marchenko. Not going to happen, despite what Holland and Babcock have said... The only way we see both Zidlicky and Marchenko in the lineup is if there is any injury to one of the other 5. krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted March 4, 2015 Quincey has been solid all season and I hope he along with the rest of our defense can remain healthy for the rest of the season, but if he isn't 100%, I have no issue in resting him and putting Marchenko in. I hope he doesn't require surgery before the offseason though... 1 TheXym reacted to this
