Connor McDavid

North Bay finally got a team back this season with the Battalion's move from Brampton, so it's nice to have that close rivalry again, although they owned us (Sudbury) this season, but were entering a rebuild, again.

I've read somewhere that finishing last isn't about getting McDavid it's about the 100% security of getting Eichel, even the last placed team only has a 20 % chance of getting him but a 100 % chance to draft Eichel - for the last time because starting next year every player will be in the lottery so no more guaranteed picks.

People can hate on the Sabres if they want but what they are doing is smart, Eichel won't be a player who needs 3 - 4 years in the minors at best it will be 1 year and he is going to kickstart their rebuild.

At some point every team will need a top pick yes that even includes the Redwings...so the holier than you attitude doesn't fly here.

I've said before that in this day and age of so called parity and cap restrictions that the draft system needs changing. With the cap, teams that keep producing competitive rosters should be rewarded by having the same chance of a top draft pick as those who don't. All teams are on a level playing field at the start of each season due to the cap so it should be the same at seasons end. The days of rewarding teams that finish near the bottom of the standings with top draft picks should be over. If not then why have the cap in place? Maybe the way of drafting could be readjusted to somehow reward sides that manage the cap era better. Maybe the winners of each division go into a draw for the top 6 picks and then continue this system down to the teams that finish 25-30th for the last picks of the first round. I just feel that the draft needs to reflect and reward success in the cap era. Otherwise it'll be the same 3-6 organisations always getting the top picks.

There is no doubt that the NHL needs a lot of fixing and not just the draft, this has been the most boring season in years...

I highly doubt they are going to change the draft again after next year, they'll look at how it plays out over a few years and maybe then tinker it again. Personally I think all NON playoffs chance should have a good chance at getting the top pick and those making the playoffs a worse one but not be completely out of it.

They should do a lottery on who gets the first pick. One year it could be the top teams getting the chance and one year it could be the bottom team.

That would be a disaster.

Here Tampa, Chicago, Anaheim get even better.

Sharp - Toews - Hossa

Kane - Mcdavid - Saad

Callahan - McDavid - Stamkos

Kucherov - Johnson - Palat

Yea... no thanks

I'd rather Edmonton get their annual first pick than Toronto get mcdavid for sure :P

AGREED haha. Seriously though, what is the chance a team gets investigated for purposely tanking? So many reasons why Toronto is absolutely ridiculous is the frigging coach. OBVIOUSLY they dont want to win games with him there.

Edit: Id also bet that the Leafs have been sending late night hoagies, pizza pies & ice cream to their boy Phillip too, it seems more then a little sluggish recently out there :hehe:

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Helm

Tatar - Mcdavid - Abdelkader

Nyquist - Sheahan - Pulks

Miller - Glendenning - Jurco

Making Weiss expendable and giving a nice problem if Franzen comes back...I could live with that! ;-)

Exactly. Eichel is'nt too bad of a "consolation prize".

As long as McDavid and Eichel don't go to Edmonton or Toronto, I'll be happy. Neither of those organizations know how to develop young players and I actually want to see these guys play well and become stars instead of being handicapped by poorly run management.

Not me. We aren't getting either of them so what do I care if they're the next Crosby or the next Daigle? f*** Connor Mcdavid!
