Guest Playmaker

Abdelkader did realize it. That's why he dropped it like a hot potato after it went in the net and had the guilty look on his face and kept looking up at the scoreboard and hoping no one else saw it. Clearly the refs favor the Wings.

I'm not sure what the rule is exactly on the whole playing with a broken stick. He definitely didn't know it was broken when he scored. It was broken but not yet in two pieces when he scored. The Blues d man broke it in half, I don't know if that even matters. Whatever the case may be, we got the win and considering all the good goals we've had called off over the years, its good to get one the other way.

Agree with playmaker. Abby DEFINITELY knew it was broken. The second he realized it snapped, he shifted his hand down over the break to straighten the stick out and make it look unbroken as he tapped it in. Then he looked around after thinking it was going to get at least reviewed, if not called off right then. Lady luck favored us today.

He knew it was broken after he put the puck into the net and dropped it. If he knew it was broken, the instant it broke, he would have put his hand over the broken part to keep it straight, not just let it go bending around like it did.

That third period was a rush! That was exactly what the team needed after that anemic second.

I wish FSN would still do postgame shows for NBC games, I want to bask in this win a little longer

If you want, just listen to postgame on 97.1fm or listen online

Just checked score ... great win over a solid team. Very happy with the W. Great job Abby ...

Who to cheer for this afternoon ... I really want Boston to be out but don't want TB to win.

@ xtrememachine

Watch the replay, he did.

Saw the replay. I don't think he realized it was broken until after he went to knock the puck into the net. I think after he scored the goal, he realized he put it in with a broken stick, but I don't think he thought "Oh hey, my stick's broken, but I'm still going to play the puck".

I guess it all depends on how you see it then, lol.

I watched the recap again, and I saw the same thing that I saw before. His stick breaks in two, and he immediately slides his hand down to hold the two pieces together so he can tap the puck in.

Only Abby truly knows though... :)

You know when your stick breaks when you're playing…no question. The entire feel of the stick changes in your hand. Though the blues player could have got a penalty for breaking it, so it's an odd call really. Glad it went our way.

2 things to note about the winner:

1- NHL probably has it in their mind the goal is unreviewable (whereas I think all goals should be)

2- The only point where I see the stick clearly broken is after he makes contact with Allen's pads, at that point the stick is awkwardly bent (thus broken imo) neither the refs, nor abby would have the reaction time to identify that as a broken stick before the puck went in. I think it would be unfair to call it back.

2 things about the officials

1 - The linesmen were absolutely brutal!

2 - the amount of interference let go by both sides was VERY interesting. It wasn't subtle at all.

And I liked it. Allowing interference like that take place makes it safer to go back and retrieve pucks. That is why there have been so many more injuries the past few seasons because more guys are getting run because of the amount of interference calls. In my opinion, the refs let both team play today and the majority of calls made were clear calls. That is how it should be.

It would be fair to call it back, it's in the rules haha. It does not matter if abby knew it was broken or not. Fraser tweeted the goal should not have counted, but it's not reviewable. Wings got a break I'll take
