Is A First Round Exit Imminent?

Rate this topic

its not a case of losing faith with the team, on current form or should i say result's we will struggle to go further than the first round. Hopefully we'll have a full roster to pick from for our last 3 games next week. Im hopeful we can win both these weekends games and then i think that will be enough to secure the post season berth, but being realistic i cant see us getting anything at the Wild today and maybe if we can put a full 60 versus the Caps we could get 2pts.

The caps scare me more than the wild

If you're the New York Rangers, who could finish first in the Eastern Conference, which of the teams that you could see in the first round is the team you do not want to see in the first round?

"I wouldn't want to play the Detroit Red Wings. I wouldn't want to play Detroit because of Mike Babcock. I wouldn't want to play Detroit because of [Henrik] Zetterberg and [Pavel] Datsyuk and [Niklas] Kronwall. They have huge leadership resources. They've got somebody that I think is the best coach in the National Hockey League, who can really prepare in a seven-game series. That's the team. It would not be fun playing Detroit. I would not want to play them."

Interesting thoughts here by Pierre. You can ***** about him being creepy as you want but he knows his hockey. Not sure if I agree with him and that leadership and Babs are enough for us to overcome a team stacked like the Rangers. But we will put up fight, no doubt.

Aye the Rangers imo would have it the worst against Detroit. It's Montreal, Tampa, and Boston who worry me more. If the wings can get past their own division, I believe their chances of going far is pretty good. I can see us putting up a damn good run in 7 games against Islanders, Pittsburgh, Capitals or Rangers. Even Tampa seems doable.

Obv I hope we beat whever we draw in the playoffs, but man, I would love for the Wings to take out Pittsburgh. Don't really have a huge hate on for any other teams in the Conference, besides Boston. Would be nice to get some revenge there also.

Manny Legace stood on his head.

He wanted to shoot himself in the head more like it. I still laugh at him refusing a multi-year deal at good money in the middle of the season because he thought he was worth more, only to flop hard in the playoffs. hahaha

No way this team advances to the 2nd round. We may even be swept. This has nothing to do with the sky falling, this is about the personnel that make up the team. Just too many deficiencies. Our best guys are plain and simple wore out. They have been killing themselves All season & just don't have enough in the tank. Pav is walking wounded, Hank is a bit slower, sore and beat , Kronner is tired and only Danny D can be consistent help for him. (Although E can send it up the middle to opposing forwards just like his first day) E is kinda like Willie Mitchell, with less talent and instinct.

It isn't all a loss though. Let the kids get up here and play in some pressure filled games. Petr is going to be an incredible goalie after a little more experience and a couple better defense-men in the top 4. All the forwards need a nap as they have not just played defensively they have had to be the D.

Bad passes, turn overs, getting pushed around, stick a fork in them. I still root for them, I still follow them but watching them play is like watching paint dry, more than it should. Set your T times for the 27th. You might see a Wing or two. If I do I will thank them and wish them a great summer. If I see Babs I will beg him to stay, if I see Holland I will congratulate him on keeping his playoff streak alive and ask him when the parade is. After all 16th, 15th, 14th, place deserves a celebration doesn't it? I also might take his car keys from him and place them on the shelf third from the top where he will have to ask a jockey to get them down for him.

We're not getting swept. I'll put money on it. How quickly so many lose faith when the team hits a rough patch. I won't be surprised to see us make the conference finals.

Obviously we all hope you are right.

But you are blindly guessing this. So if you are wrong, you really have nothing to lose. Because we want it to happen.

But you can't honestly feel like we look like a conference finals team.

We don't hit a fly.

Predicting not getting swept in the 1st is a whole lot more realistic than predicting the opposite. Even with how the team is playing.

We're 28th in the league in hits. Guess who's 29 and 30? Chicago and Minnesota. Still wanna make that argument?

And yeah, I do. I think hitting is important. Also, a stat they don't keep, taking hits and not caring. We are also bad at that.

It's an interesting note to make but I think Chicago gets away with not hitting because they play good, fast puck possession hockey.

Somewhat agree with you on this. Chicago style works because they have the players that can make it work. We used to make it work as well when Z and D were younger. Now we just get banged up on plays. Thing is, that's babcocks style of coaching. However i still think the Wings can be successful even without having high "hits" per game as long as they can play with decent finesse and puck possession OR at the very least match up the grit against the opponents (specifically if playing Montreal in the playoffs). Problem is, puck possession goes to hell when you have turn over machines like Big E etc.

Guess what I'm saying is, while I agree with you that hitting is important, the Red Wings can make it work if they can reduce their turnovers, do better with puck possession and match up the grit when playing against hard hitting teams. Either that or use other teams grit to advantage in drawing penalties. Our 2008 cup winning team wasnt a very gritty team keep in mind. We had Aaron Downey but most of our team was finesse based.

So am I the only one that whole-heartedly believes that we'll make it out of the first round? K

yes. we haven't shown any sort of turnaround as far as winning games goes. hopefully that changes. for us to win, everyone has to be on their A game.

I wish I could believe that, and sure it is possible but we are not going to be the favourite against any team we go up against.

Personally I'd prefer Montreal, I think we'd have the biggest chance against them.

Unlike the Kings, Blues this team is not built for the playoffs. Since years now this team has been bottom of the barrel in hits, fights and I guess blocked shots. It's sadly not 2002 anymore so this is not a team that can just get by via skill alone, plus I don't see the needed pack mentality ...so if they make the playoffs not getting swept would be a huge surprise.

Is the team as bad as march indicated ? No

Are they as good as the standings have shown before march ? No

No, he predicted we'd not get swept in the 1st, and went on to say he "could see us in the conference finals" there's a difference

There's absolutely zero correlation between amount of hitting and winning hockey games. Go look at the numbers.

I think its funny that before the season started, everyone was propping the Kings up on the pedestal saying that they were the team to beat this year. Now, if you look at the standings, the Kings have only a 21.6 percent chance to make it in. If they make it in, are they still the favorites even if its by the skin of their ass?

What constitutes a favorite in the playoffs? Past playoff performance? Health of the team? How hot they are coming into the playoffs? Puck luck?

The Wings are banged up a bit with Dats obviously not playing at 100% and Abdelkader and Franzen out with injuries. That doesn't play into their favor. What does play into their favor is that for the first 3/4 of the season, the Wings were a great team. Before the trade deadline, the Wings were sitting pretty. Since then, they have struggled to put things together.

The keys to winning the Stanley Cup come down to the same things every year.

1. Health - Is your team healthy? I think Tampa Bay and Montreal learned this lesson last year when their goalies went down with injury last year. Tampa Bay lost in 4 straight.

2. Hot goaltending - Regular season doesn't mean a lot here. Can your goalie make clutch saves when it counts?

3. Puck luck - Can you get the puck to bounce favorably for you more often than it bounces against you? If it bounces against you, do you have the mental fortitude to overcome it?

4. Special teams - Can your team capitalize on the PP and keep the puck out of the net on the PK?

5. The hero factor - Some players just step up at playoff time. Does your team have a hero?

I don't know if the Wings are going to be a first round exit or not. What I can say is that we have had lower seeded teams like the Kings winning the Cup or the Oilers going to the finals. The cup teams last year were the 6th place Kings vrs the 5th place Rangers.

In short, if you get in, anything can happen. Your team can catch fire, players find a whole new level, and with some luck you can win a series. No one knows how a team is going to do and that is why I love the NHL playoffs.

The Wings may in fact be headed for a first round exit just based on the health of the overall team right now. However, their PP has been lethal all year and their PK has been good as well. I am really eager to see if players like Tatar will take another step and become a playoff beast this year.

Ever go to prom with the hot girl from school and when you have a chance to go all the way, then fail to "perform"?

The last 3-4 yrs

Except the last 3-4 years, the girl hasn't been hot.

Predicting not getting swept in the 1st is a whole lot more realistic than predicting the opposite. Even with how the team is playing.

We're 28th in the league in hits. Guess who's 29 and 30? Chicago and Minnesota. Still wanna make that argument?

But those teams have talent and are well coached.
