4/2 GDT : Bruins 3 at Red Wings 2

A little bit, but he also had two defensive players doing practically nothing to prevent that goal. I blame it therefore more on them than on Mrazek.

Thats a little bit too simple for my taste. There is a huge difference between the first two goals and the third.

He shouldn't have ever had a puck being passed behind him in the first place. Those defenders are not goalies. Mrazek was lucky it didn't bounce off a wings skate and into the net.

The Wings have made the playoffs for 23 years and won 4 Cups by sticking by the formula of playing veterans at critical times and letting young players overripen. Like it or not, it's been relatively successful. Continuing to play Mrazek when he's clearly not ready for prime time is just Babcock cutting off his nose to spite his face. Seems like when someone gets on his s*** list or his "pet project" list, it's almost impossible to get off it.

Is it too late for Franzen to return and save the team?

all right, you crazy kid. Stranger things have happened, and probably will continue to do so, at least for a short while here.

I like Tom Petty, by the way, and now that song is stuck in my head. LOL~

I don't think many thought he was the "savior". This team's problems are much deeper than goaltending. Carey Price could'nt save this team right now with all the dumb penalties, mistakes, breakdowns, and general laziness we've seen for the last month.

But I do think Mrazek will eventually be a much better goaltender than Howard ever was as he continues to develop.

As I said in another thread, when Zetterberg plays like crap, people always blame it on his back injury. When he plays well, the back is miraculously cured.

He has too much immunity here. He's playing uninspired and doing a poor job of leading by example.

Z is a shell of his former self, that's just the reality. To suggest he's not trying though I think is absurd. Given all that he's gone through, he's just not going to be able to be the player he was before his ongoing back issues really dug their claws into him. It's sad, it's unfortunate, it flat out sucks, but I can't run off and drop the "he's playing uninspired and doing a poor job of leading by example." I would bet he's doing all he can, but I would bet that just isn't close to what we're used to from him, and it likely never will be again. I don't like it, I wish it were different, but I'm not going to sit here and s*** on the guy. There's way too many guys on this team who are in far better shape who aren't kicking into another gear. That's the problem right now.

Shell? Zberg is still the #2 best player on this team. Is the entire team in some bizarre slump? yeah

Ugh....I truly believe I am watching the worst hockey played in Detroit since 1989... Still plenty of games left to stay in the playoffs, but these two games would have solidified or at least made it VERY hard to fall out...

...I am very disappointed in the leadership on this team. You got Drew Miller who was nearly sliced in half playing with his heart on his sleeve and we cannot even get our leaders to play with a sore shoulder. Z just looks gassed, he cannot even play an entire game anymore. D is atrocious...really, Q absolutely took the wind out of the sail tonight. Sure it was a cheap call, but you knew the refs were looking to give Boston a PP and he should have known to not even give them anything to look at...then the 2nd goal, WTF was Q doing? Watching the puck and not paying attention to the player behind him.

All in all, the team started out great! Huge pressure, goal post, forcing turnovers, making plays....then the 3rd came. Ugh...

Petr was the first star all game long until the s***astic go ahead goal. I love ya Petr, and I am sure Jimmy would've given up more goals all game long, but that last goal was a gimme...oh well, should've never had to come down to one bad goal, team should've put Boston away earlier...

Still....WTF is the use of Pulk in the middle on the PP? He is in the middle of 4 defenders, how the f*** is he going to get a shot off from there? We ALL know where he should be on the PP, but NO! They put Z there all night!

If Dats isn't in against Minny, then f*** him, go on LTIR....boo hoo my shoulder hurts, mother f*****, Drew Miller almost got scalped and he played and played very well! Suck it up Pav! This team needs you to lead by example, if you don't give a s***, why should they?

No doubt about the rest of the team, but Z is still not the player he was. Not even close. I love the guy, I'll support him to the end, but he's not the dominant player he was. My point wasn't to s*** on him; his issues are clearly out of his control. He's still an incredibly important and valuable player, he's just no longer the player he once was, and I don't think it's fair to judge him against his former self at this stage. Simple as that.

I still maintain he would be more like himself if Babs would play him with Pav. Pav is better at center and it would allow some pressure to be taken off Z and he could focus more on scoring goals. I mean Babs needs to change the lines a bit to get change.

Z- Pav- Abby

Cole- Sheahan- Tatar

Nyquist- Helm- Jurco

Miller- Glendening- Weiss

I would really like to see those lines. Abby always plays well with Pav and Hank, Cole would add size to Tatar's line to create more room, the 3rd line would be nice and speedy. It would def help Z and the team as a whole and I think Babs really needs to look at this.

Good.

Not trying to play armchair GM or anything, but who should they replace him with? A relatively unknown because that's pretty much all that's out there, and that seems like a bit of a gamble if you ask me.

There's not too many other coaches with 3 conference championships, a Stanley Cup, and coach of the year awards to their name. This is a guy that not only helped lead the Red Wings to a championship, but also one who helped this team make the post season even when many were predicting that we wouldn't, and until a month ago, was the best team in the league.

Look, I'm as angry and perplexed over the last month as you, but let's keep a level head here. You don't just fire/ run off a coach like Babcock over a bad stretch. Every coach goes through them.

I mean, were you calling for Scotty Bowman's head back in 1999 when the Red Wings were playing .500 hockey most of the year, and didn't really find their stride until that blockbuster deal at the trade deadline?

I don't have the answers, but this whole coach carousel method that some of you all seem to be advocating for rarely ever pans out.

Umm have you ever even played hockey before? This was probably the worst post I have ever read, Oh and Pav has an ankle injury not a shoulder injury fyi. Pretty hard to skate on a messed up ankle, so yah I think resting Pav is worth it. The team will be fine Ottawa got going too late they are not going to catch us so just take a chill pill and maybe support our best player rather than bashing him.

No Joke... They might as well toss McCollum in for a game.

My logic:

-His numbers have been solid the past 2 seasons and he's apparently been real hot lately (12-1-3 in past 16).

-He's eligible for Group VI UFA status this summer, so he'll be hungry to audition for a new opportunity for next fall

-Couldn't be any worse than what they're getting from Howie, Mrazek or the Glass Monster...

Wow! If you don't want people to take you seriously as a poster, this is how you do it.

Why do you hold it against player for being hurt? You think they want to be hurt? You think they aren't tough enough? I really doubt that Franzen wants to have post concussion syndrome, I really doubt Datsyuk wants to have an ankle injury or is "being weak". If they could play and not cause further injury, they would. Its not worth jeopardizing a season just to get him in the lineup.

The guy has been a great player for this team for years, he doesn't deserve to have is own "fans" say "f*** him" for being hurt. Such disrespect.

Firing coaches isn't always about bringing in a better coach. Sometimes, you just need to have a fresh start or someone with some fresh ideas on how to improve the team. I feel that Babcock's message has gotten stale. This team hit its zenith with Babcock, and is regressing.

Bringing up his resume is kind of annoying. We could miss the playoffs the next 5 years in a row and he'd still be the most accomplished coach in the league trophy wise. But that's not the whole point and sports is a "what have you done for me lately" attitude.

What season? The season is almost over. He should play hurt just so we can preserve the streak. He can rest when we're eliminated the 3rd week of April.
