Here's the thing, we wait way to long everyf****** time to shoot. That's why everyone is able to block or goalies can stop it.

Agree. We have so few one-timers that when we do I'm shocked when it happens. We rely way too much on tip-ins and so we always wait until the net front guy is in place and ready.

In addition, Babs has always relied heavily on offensive minded defensemen. Go back and look at the Olympic teams, his defensemen scored as much as forwards. I just wonder if he relies too much on our guys seeing as how they aren't as good as we used to have.

Absolutely agree.

I think Nyquist is the worst culprit but there's a lot of guys making that same mistake. They wait that extra second and end up firing it into someone's shinpad.

I don't blame them. Their captain is shooting the puck consistently from bad angles near the boards instead of going to the net like he used to do. Not much example there to follow.

So does anyone here still want babcock around next year

Five weeks ago we were one of the best teams in hockey. If you let five weeks out of a thirty week season dictate your off-season moves, I'd hate to have you as my GM.

That's what you get for not starting on time and trying to play come back against a very good goalie and Trotz as coach. The Wings played well in the second and third period, but they aren't skilled enough to win games with 40 minute efforts.

Both Carolina games are must-wins and maybe try to steal a point in Montreal. It's truly astounding that it has come to this point. What a collapse.

It's against team policy. We're always among the league bottom feeders in blocked shots.

I've seen the stat haha it's something they need to do more of. The oilers sent the wings packing in the past just because of shot blocking.

When did we used to do it? Seems like this team is always around the bottom of the league in shots blocked.

I don't think they were ever near the top of the league at it, but I feel like it wasn't the rarity it is now.

And there was this one guy, a big Swedish defenseman who used to be really good at it. Hmm... his name escapes me though. :P

Damn man. I can't believe how hard it is for this team to muster up 2 wins in a row considering they went the whole first 70% of the season without losing 2 straight in regulation. Was thinking why doesn't Babcock put Z with Datsyuk? Z is really nothing out there right now.

Babcock post game: "I thought we played a really good game, we had lots of chances just couldn't find the back of the net"

He needs to ******* go. I'd be fine letting him out now with 3 games to go, bring in someone who wants to stay and can motivate these players. Absolute joke!

Man, 2 BS deflected goals, we actually play pretty good but can't score any ******* goals. The two games coming up against Carolina loom large, their huge games, but against bottom feeders will the Wings even show up? Who would've seen this coming after the trade deadline, yikes.

Agreed, but the we also didn't have puck luck today. In end it's simple : Win the two games against Carolina and we're in. It's still in our own hands.

Stop it. This team has regressed for years under Babcock. This year they might miss the playoffs completely. The last five weeks are a microcosm of the end of his coaching career in Detroit.

It's just the technique they use to block the shots, you hardly see a wings player sprawl out on the ice. they block by staying on their skates and going low causing the shot to be deflected off the skate or glove.

Yeah, there's always been one or two guys who did it, but blocking shots has to be a team commitment. It's not just one or two guys blocking shots. It was a team commitment from Washington tonight.

Agreed. I guess I'm just not very confident in those two games being as easy as they should be on paper to win. The Wings look defeated and either gassed and/or injured as a group. Helm and Nyquist are the only players that looked like they had anything in the tank tonight.

It's incredible that the Wings can deflect the puck into our net but not the opposition..how can they be so accurate in hitting the opposition goal post? Someone posted asking whether we want Babcock back. The answer is no. Many will disagree but there are many changes that need to be made. With 85% certainty, the Wings will miss the playoffs. Ottawa is on fire. Their schedule is easy. Toronto only has a 5% chance of winning tonight which puts Ottawa a point back. Only the complete demise of Pittsburg would allow the Wings to get in.

Maybe the Mystery Man will return to save us.

This team has regressed because its core has gotten old. That's what happens to every hockey team on the planet - Detroit fans are just too spoiled to recognize that it has to happen to them eventually, too.

The best player on our team is on the wrong side of 35 and dealing with nagging injuries. Our captain is getting there and has even worse back problems. We're also down Franzen, as well as our two big guys (Cole/Abby).

What part of "this team is in the middle of a rebuild" don't you understand? This team isn't supposed to make the playoffs, let alone contend for the Cup. It's only because of Babcock and our incredible farm system that we're even in the race at all. If you feel fine throwing that away, then fine. But there's a reason that Babcock would be the biggest FA in the NHL this off-season, and a reason you're not a GM. And thank god for that.

schedule easy? pitt at home, on the road with nyr and philly? not that easy. boston has 3 on the road too. we have by far the easiest out of the 4 teams battling for the 3 spots.

Agreed, but honestly I don't think that's the Wings biggest problem. Most of the season they played a pretty solid defensive game in spite of their mediocre blueline.

Today they didn't score on a 5 on 3, and this team is just not very good at scoring at even strength.

They are 24th in the league at even strength goals, behind teams like Columbus and Toronto.

5-on-4 they're 1st in the league.
