Expect the Leafs to write a 'blank check' to Babs to fill the roles of both head coach, and general manager.

I can't see Babcock going to the Leafs, he'll got all manner of riches but I don't see the fit. I'm still hopeful that he stays with Wings but not 100% confident.

If Babs went to Toronto, I could just see him giving the media the death stare after they ask him a stupid question lol.

This team is a mess, whoever they hire they will just fire in a year from now anyways.

Wow I'm not shocked but now that front-office has 0 people with GM experience at the NHL level. Nonis is not a bad GM he will find a new job soon, they've also extended him last season so Leafs are paying him for 4 years from now on wow.

Leafs are going to offer Babcock a ton of money plus a Roy like situation but he would tarnish his legacy because that team, ownership, media circus is something else.

I doubt any team hires a new coach until Babcock is signed to a deal. Any coach looking for work will have to wait on Babs .

I agree with you on this for two reasons:

1) The teams all want a decent crack at getting the top UFA coach

2) Any other UFA coach will want to you use Babcock as the yardstick for their own contract. Take Paul MacLean for example, he won't want to undersell himself and they will use Babcock's contract as a bargaining chip.

This is exactly what they're going to do. Very predictable. Whether or not we hear about it is another question...

As someone who listens to Buffalo Sports Talk radio, Nolan being fired isn't a shock, it was expected. Not that I agree with it. He should have been guaranteed 2015-16 for what he had to put up with this year.

Babcock to Toronto rumors was the reason why I stopped listening to Toronto media. It's been said every media outlet in Toronto has to have 5 Maple Leafs stories a day, so you can really only believe 10-20% of what they say, which explains why I don't believe the Phaneuf to Detroit talk.

That's a joke. The GM gives him a horrible roster, they basically tank the entire season on purpose. Then when they finish last, they fire him?

wtf???

Tim Murray didn't fire Nolan because he believed Teddy was a bad coach or that he did not provide the results the organization expected (which in a way, he did). Rather, because Murray was hired after Nolan was already behind the bench. He inherited Nolan. Now that the McEichel situation is about to be resolved, Murray wants to bring in his own guy so he can be 100% certain the team is going in the direction with which he is happy.

It's almost a foregone conclusion whenever a GM is preceded by the coach that, eventually, the GM will replace the coach for his own guy.

Regarding Nolan, when he was brought in it was pretty much spelled out that he was only a temporary guy till they could bring someone else in. I know most here probably don't follow buffalo, but this was expected.

Who do you think they'll bring in?

No idea. The Sabres fans I know have already convinced themselves that once they land Mcdavid (maybe) they'll be competitive again. When really they are on a 5 year tank plan, ballpark. Not sure any hot coach would wanna take up those reigns right now. Pretty sure they're gonna end up with the someone from the bottom of the heap - but then that's probably still an upgrade from Nolan. New owner has lots of money and seems dedicated to the tank. Anything could happen I guess.

They were talking on either Hockey Central or MvsW last week, can't remember who, about whether Buffalo landing McDavid entices Babcock to want to take charge of the Sabres. Honestly, I could see that as something he would be interested in, especially McDavid. Assume for a moment McDavid does live up to the hype of being the next Crosby. Wouldn't a coach love to have that kid as his center piece? And Buffalo does have some pretty good prospects coming. Pegula has enough money to allow Babcock to write his own check as well, so the money aspect can be thrown out the window.
