ECQF : (7) Sénateurs d'Ottawa vs. (2) Les Canadiens de Montréal

Sens should hold their heads high. Quick whistle and calls in Price's favor (he is the Chosen One, after all) cost them their momentum - they played well and Habs did not deserve this series win. They are imminently beatable... I hope we get to eliminate them.

Divers, embellished, arrogant brats advance thanks to a bad call what a downer

This ******* league owes the sens an apology. Disappointed that the Sens didn't return the favor after the game ended.

Senator fans should be really proud of this team, lowest payroll and yet they would have stormed back if it weren't for Chris Lee God damnit

Ott got robbed

tying goal disallowed, due to ref blindness

Price is a diver. Who knew?

Ottawa eliminated on a bad call... Yay, NHL.

REFS WIN REFS WIN!

Regardless of which team you're rooting for, I hate to see a series-ending game decided by s***ty reffing. NHL needs to get its s*** together.

When I read posts like this, I just shake my head. As a referee, I can tell you that this kind of thing happens at every level of the game. Puck hits the goalie, ref thinks the goalie has it, ref blows the whistle, puck goes into the net. The puck was laying down right next to him out of the refs view. It wasn't a case of crappy reffing. It was just bad luck. Human error is part of the game. The Wings and every other team has benefitted from this kind of play before. They have also been stung by it. It won't be the first time and it won't be the last.

There is really no way to fix this issue unless you give the referee x-ray glasses or remove them from the ice entirely and have them sitting in a video booth where they can make every call from there.

Now, what every hockey fan should be discussing is the fact that they had 40+ shots on net and couldn't beat Price once. As a Wings fan, that would terrify me because it shows that while Montreal was outhustled and outplayed, their goalie kept them in it like he has all season. He is probably going to win the Vezina trophy this season. For those who think that Tampa Bay was going to be an impossible team to beat, imagine playing Montreal. That is just as scary.

I 100% agree that it is human error. And I also 100% think the NHL has the power to do something about it.

what a rip off!

Ottawa's amazing run comes to an end by a terrible, terrible call. Once again, the league is embarrassed by inept reffing.

Any idea how much money the owners lose by not having a game seven? Enough to get a ref rep remanded?

And what would you propose? Put robots in as refs?

Yes you totally read my mind. That is exactly what I would propose. It's the ONLY reasonable answer. *eye roll *

Video review. Make all goals/non-goals reviewable and issue one additional coach's challenge per game. Use it wisely, just like your time out.

That wouldn't help in this case. Once the play was whistled down, the Habs players stopped playiing. It's arguable that The Canadiens might have swept the loose puck away if the play hadn't already been whistled down. If you allowed it after review, then you'd be giving a goal to one team for something done outside of the actual playing time.

How about not blowing the whistle 2 microseconds after it hit him? Quick whistles go to the refs favored team, watch enough games and you'll see a pattern.

Yea, because referees who swallow their whistles when the puck is in the goalie garner so much respect. As a goalie, I would rather the ref err on the side of caution rather than have someone slash the hell out of me or jam his stick into my chest looking for something that I clearly have covered.

The favored team statement you gave is pure nonsense and I feel dumber just reading it.

Making something that obvious a reviewable play would eliminate a lot of it

It was obvious that the play was blown dead a good second or two before the puck went in. I don't see how instant replay or a coaches challenge is going to fix this problem.

I know there have been situations that I have benefitted from the ref losing sight of the puck, just as there are instances of the opposite. In short, no easy way to fix them other than altering the way the game is officiated in some way, shape, or form that will probably involve removing referees from the ice surface.

A lot of these goals are waived off even when the whistle hasn't been blown yet, because of the intent to blow bulls***. Also, that whistle should have never happened as quickly as it did.

In the end, the Habs are the most beatable team left in the playoffs. They struggle to score. They scored 2 goals in their last 3 games. Price can't get a shutout every night. Wings held the highest scoring team to just 9 goals in 5 games. The Habs are nowhere near the team some make them out to be.
