ECQF Game 2 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Tampa Bay Lightning 5

Gotta switch up the lines in Game 3, Abby or no Abby. A split is good. Worried about our goal scoring as I have been since January, relying on your PP when your best players are old and small isn't conducive for success. Need some cycle game, some greasy rebounds 5on5 to go in. Oh, and it's gotta be Mrazek in Game 3. Howard looked like a lost puppy in the 3rd.

We played a lot better overall, just our defense gave them gimme goals. Leaving guys wide open crashing the net or in front of the net. If we can tighten up our defense and keep the shots up like we did today, we might come out ahead in this series.

Way to give home ice back boys. Just could'nt pull off 2 in a row huh? Not that i'm surprised....

Well, the Wings don't give home ice back until they lose at home. Disappointing game nonetheless.

I would split up Pav and Z at home. There's just nothing going offensively. The 4th line plays hard, but the 3rd line is a black hole.

Very fortunate to have even gotten a split in Tampa. The Wings have to be much better going forward or this will be a quick series.

Since I know everyone is going to be in gloom and doom negative mode, I'll play devils advocate and post a few bright notes...

-Wings scored late to kill Bishops shutout

-Wings didn't take a boneheaded too many men penalty, like they have made a habit of the past few weeks

-Wings are going back home to Detroit tied 1-1, instead of down 2

But that really, really, really shouldn't be something we have to celebrate.

If Abdlekader is back next game, Babcock has to go:

Helm - Datsyuk -Tatar

Nyquist - Zetterberg -Abdlekader

Andersson - Sheahan - Jurco

Miller - Glendenning - Ferraro

Like it ... Like splitting pav and hank just I'd add pulkkinen , yes he has no experience but sooner or later he will need to get some and he led the ahl scoring and we need goals

If the team played with as much effort and heart as TB and lost 4-1, I wouldn't be upset and I'd be optimistic. It is so obvious that we are outmatched in skill, sometimes that can be compensated with heart and hunger with a lucky bounce but not this group.

Boston 2014 ... groundhog day.

Here's a crazy though. Instead of trying to shut down/shot suppress the best offense in the league, a team that couldn't be shut down all year, how about taking the puck out of their hands and making their (questionable) defense win or lose this series for them?

We're not going to win this series by trying to shut down their offense. Because our defense isn't as good as their offense is.

BUT, maybe our offense is better than their defense is. I mean, it's not like they're defensive stalwarts.

Or we can just keep doing the same thing over and over.

Babcock doesn't care about this team's future. He won't be here. Why would he care about getting Pulkinnen experience?

I can't find the Zetterberg thread but I think our captain needs to be called out. He has been garbage now all of 2015 he has scored what maybe 4 or 5 goals in the last 4 months while playing top line minutes and #1 PP unit game in and game out?

Wake the f*** up

I just don't think his body is up for it anymore. I don't think for a second that it's for lack of heart and effort.

Oh I agree 100% way more coverage and the shots on goal gap was closed it's no like last game for certain. Mrazek should stay in nets though I believe.

Oh and I've always been a fan of the mule but I think he needs to go sorry. He has missed the past two years playoffs we lose him at least 3-4 months of the year go suck on someone else's team.

Yupp. I'd love Weiss/Pulks over Andersson on the 3rd line.... but we all know that isn't happening

I like it kip, but there's this "realgud" guy behind the bench who doesn't.... Offense be damned, just have good sticks and compete! :D

This game is not an improvement over last game. That's just more Babcock doublespeak. If you "played better" and got murdered 5-1 then you really didn't play better at all. We got dominated just as bad this game as we did last game. Sure the shots are closer, but if you ever believed that we were in this game you're nuts.

If we lost then next game 10-2, but the shots on goal are the same for both teams, is that an improvement? Of course not.

No we didn't. we had much more possession, time in there zone. We just didn't create many dangerous chances. If that makes me nuts, I'm quite fine with that. I think our defensive zone coverage was much worse this game, though.

We need to stop waiting to get set up on our offence. It gives them time to be organized and their coverage is too good for that. Lets create some chaos in their zone next game! Work the cycle game, Shots off the back boards, Defensemen and wingers switching side. Some creative stuff to break up their box.

....and 2008 Lidstrom/Rafalski....2002 Shanahan/Yzerman and maybe 1994 S. Federov.

I really miss Rafalski. The potential pin-point where it started to slip.

If Z is dross, and the 3rd line is non-existent, why not throw Z on the 3rd? He's not going to cut it on the top 2 so nothing to lose.

I'm not going to go crazy over this loss. This was never going to be a short series.

I feel the same way, but they escaped with a win in the first game, then got pounded today. Things have not looked good so far. But it is a tied series, they're no worse off. Just gotta wake up out there. They can beat Tampa, but the play we've seen so far is'nt going to get it done. Too many defensive lapses and missed opportunities. Tampa looks dangerous everytime they hit Detroit's zone.
