Mutually part ways. Babs has some competition on the open market. Babs will not be only one to help jack up salaries for NHL coaches.

Sharks and McLellan mutually agree to part ways

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Sharks and Todd McLellan have mutually agreed to part ways.
In related moves, Assistant Coaches Jim Johnson and Jay Woodcroft, and Video Coordinator Brett Heimlich have been relieved of their duties. Associate Coach Larry Robinson moved into his full-time role of director of player development at the conclusion of the 2014-15 regular season.
"I want to thank Todd and his staff for their years of service to the San Jose Sharks organization," said general manager Doug Wilson. "Sometimes a change is best for all parties involved but nothing will take away from what Todd and his staff accomplished here over the last seven seasons."
"San Jose will always hold a special place for me and my family," said McLellan. "I would like to thank Doug and the Sharks organization for allowing me the opportunity to coach at the National Hockey League level. While we both agree that a change is in the best interest of myself and the team, I'm proud of what we accomplished as an organization."

Have to think he would be an option if Babs leaves

Yes, I'm aware of Blashill's presence. Blash seems to be a good coach for development and maybe he is best suited in the AHL. If he gets paid like an NHL coach, why wouldn't he just stay with the Griffs anyway?

This is good for the Wings though and their chances of keeping Babs. Another premier coach on the market. Sad for Mclellen, but the sharks are a mess and have been for a few years now.

See, I think this is the best possible thing that could have happened to him. He'll have greater opportunities elsewhere.

I can't remember the last team so many premier coaches have been available: Babcock, Tippet, McLellan, Julien, Hitchcock and maybe even the regular season magic man Budreaus.

It's like the who is who of coaches the UFA list on the other hand is so damn bleak. Not one premier guy..I wonder if this is the start of more changes in San Jose i.e. Doug Wilson is next

I really think he would be the best thing to happen to Edmonton. They need a guy who can develop their young players... Basically all of their good players are young

Not going to happen although I would like it if Babcock walks. Koala is not going from one retooling organization to another :(

I find it funny that you have no problem stating that Tippett is going to be fired (something that is impossible), yet you have no porblem saying that McLellan coming to Detroit is "not going to happen" (something that is quite possible). Get real.

Also, I hate to break it to you, but your beloved Beastly Bears of the East have some retooling to do themselves, and have just demonstrated by firing their GM that they treat their staff like crap, and show zero loyalty. Why would McLellan or anyone want any par of that?

McDavid under the Koala watch out NHL western conference

said someone 5 years from now, if Edmonton are lucky.

I know we all assume Blashill would become the next coach if Babcock leaves, but I do wonder if it's really a good idea to replace a guy with a clone. If we need a change in strategy is rather go with McClellan than someone who will just be like Babcock in every way. Especially if him being tuned out by the players is part of the problem.
