Unforced icings

Is there any site that keeps track of this stat or icing stats in general? In this series (and season) I've noticed a lot of times the wing's break out passes go wide, and sail down the ice for an icing. I'm curious to know what the avg is for the league, and if other teams commit the same amount.

I guarantee we ice the puck more often then any team. Quincey and Ericcsson seem to be the worst for this.

Its odd, because even when we get a turnover in the neutral zone, instead of turning around and restarting a breakout, we just whip it back into theyre zone and give it back to them.

This is obviously followed by a too many men penalty

Well, this isn't your older brother's Red Wings, unfortunately. We don't have those skilled defensemen anymore that could make great passes up the ice tape to tape.

Pretty much spot on here.

On a side note, Pav had a brutal unforced icing last night which pretty much summed up the kind of night he had.

I'd say they have at least 15-20 unforced icings a game. Say the wings win 50% of those faceoffs that's almost 10 extra offensive posessions for their opponent a game while the wings are losing possible posessions in the offensive zone. It's frustrating to watch, and I basically count it as a turnover even if they win the ensuing faceoff.

LOL. You're not even in the ballpark. Wings have 18 icings so far in the series. Can't determine forced/unforced, but I'd say most icings tend to be unforced. TB has 12.

You can find the info in the play by play reports on NHL.com. Far too much work to go through the whole season, much less to do so for the whole league.

Like most other stats, I would assume the Wings are between a bit above or a bit below average.

lol I found some icing stats from last year and 3.5 icings a game was their avg. I guess I'm lumping the passes that are basically turnovers into the icings haha
