Z carried this team for years gtfo. He should be the last one ANYONE complains about.

He's had a couple games where he set up some nice plays but that isn't enough when you've been a world class player and you have the c on the chest. If he goes goalless in a 7 game series there will be questions and rightfully so.

He carried us for years to what? Lidstrom carried us for years. Z has done nothing as a captain of this team, i'm not saying he's had much help but come on this series is a great example of whats happened since 5 retired, Datsyuk has been amazing and carried, meanwhile Z has just lost his legs and Scoring touch, Great player but he definitely shouldn't be playing center anymore, should be our 2nd line LW but we have no depth.

Dude just stop posting and go watch the 2013 playoffs and 2013 last 10 season games to get into the playoffs. The Z hate out of you is just getting quite blatant. Zetterberg has franchise records for this team for playoffs, don't talk about how he hasn't done anything.

This isn't 2013, though. Besides, Z was great in that Anaheim series. He slowed down big time in the Chicago series, as did Datsyuk and Kronwall. We didn't get much production from our stars in that series.

Zidlicky's offensive upside doesn't outweigh his lack of foot speed/poor decisions in a Game 7. I think I would even take Kindl at this point. At least he can move.

It wasn't even his movement. He just slapped at the puck. The 5th goal all he had to do is grab the puck and back pedal behind his net

I know, but to say he hasn't done anything as captain is a stretch. The fan loyalty on this thread is getting out of hand tbh. Makes me feel embarassed as a Red Wings fan.

More accurately, he blew out his back. But Z is not the problem. Sure, I'd love it if he was better and scoring like the days of old, but generally speaking, we have, way, way, way more problems on defense worth talking about before we s*** all over Z.

You'd think the team would have done a pretty good job of that by now.

Nyquist is too small and weak on the puck. At least Tatar's tenacity may eventually turn him into a playoff performer. Nyquist has to put on a lot of muscle next year.

I know anything can happen in a Game 7, but I've just got this bad feeling Johnson or Stamkos is going to score the series winner.

Defense has been lacking for years and that's where the majority of our problems are at this point. I've said it a million times it seems like, but I can understand Holland struggling to bring in an elite defenseman. That's tough. I don't fault him really for not landing one because they don't grow on trees and they're tougher than ever to sign. But that he hasn't been able to make more improvements on some level after too many years now via trade or free agency is just sad.

I think it's incredible what Babcock's been able to accomplish with these teams these last few years. If anything, I don't think he gets enough credit for what he's accomplished given how lacking we are on defense in particular.

Agreed on all accounts.

We dont really have any D-men in the system either. Sure, there's Ouellette, and Marchenko. Lets face it though, neither are a top 4 guy probably. That doesnt leave alot of hope.

If I'm Babcock, that's my play to the Wings FO... you want me back, you give me D-men. Give me speed and grit guys. Skill guys like Dats and Z are alright, but lets face it, it's time to strongly considering moving on, theyre well out of their prime, and shadows of their former selves, it really hurts to say that. You get the beauty play still every now and then, but they dont take over and dominate games anymore. It happens to all the great ones unfortunately. Also unfortuantely... we haven't been able to replace them yet. They still have roles, but we need the replacements. Tatar is showing promise. So did Nyquist, but he's fallen off as of late.

I know we like to think, we're the Red Wings, we have such a great roster. Outside of a few guys, it's not that special. It's the system that gets us to where we are, it's the talent and desire, and grit that wins in the playoffs, not necessarily the fancy schmancy skill guys.

Not really, our team's roster isn't all that great. I'm actually quiet impressed that we've given Tampa a run for their money.

Me too, I thought the wings would lose in 5 before the series...but it's unfortunate now if we lose this series, because we should have been up 3-1 in this series and who knows what might have happened? I want a Detroit vs Montreal series...

Absolutely. Datsyuk had to do the same early in his career and he came into the next season a much better and tougher player for doing so. It's painfully obvious that he's just too weak, so I really, really, really hope he really does something about it this summer. There's no excuse not to. If he comes into next year in the same shape, I'll expect him to become another wash of a promising prospect on this team.

Like i said he lost his legs and his scoring touch, i'm mad because he hasn't produced yes but at the same time i'm not blaming him for this it's Kennys fault, we have no scoring depth and Z is forced to play center, at this point all he is a shutdown guy with good passes haven't seen anything else from him but Stammer doesn't have a goal either so I guess i can't really complain, theres different types of captains and you can expect different things from them but offensive studs like Z and Stamkos should both have a goal by now I guess Z is no offensive stud anymore, and we do Have a Datsyuk for Stamkos.. I say match Z up against Stamkos so Datsyuk can attempt to carry us.
