ECQF Game 7 GDT : at Lightning 2, Red Wings 0 (Tampa wins series, 4-3)

Tatar was infuriating me all series. I made a game of taking notice how the puck would go to the other team every time he touched the puck, especially on the power play. Helm had a few good plays but overall was disappointing, he's no Abby that's for sure. I thought Sheahan was great after the first two games and Jurco impressed me as well. He played smart and hard all series. Dats was being covered hard all series and his line mates couldn't take advantage of the open space. Still not the same Pavel we're used to.

So disappointing. We actually played a damn good first 40 mins tonight. Tatar and Gus looked dangerous, Glendenning great as usual, Kindl was pretty solid. If ONLY Miller had scored that lob, or Tatar had scored one of those 2 chances.

Dats had some shots, but noticeably, to me, Z looked slow, real slow. I think maybe he's only got 1 more season in him, and we need someone to complement him for sure.

Mrazek was solid, give him the job next year, and possibly see if we can get a good deal for Howard. If not, keep Howard, and let them battle it out.

As usual, we could use some D. Not sure who's available though. Maybe the big move for Phaneuf might happen?

Game 4 is the turning point. We put that game away, we're up 3-1.

I can't say Game 6 as much, because we had that horrible start. If we'd started Game 6 like we had tonight, we might have won it.

Hopefully Montreal takes these clowns out.

So Stamkos gets a pass for not scoring how many years in a row, but not Nyquist or Tatar? Zetterberg is not healthy. I'd bet on that.

Maybe, but he didn't strike me as injured. From what I've heard so far from the radio and from watching with my own eyes, Abdelkader, Glendening, Ericsson and Datsyuk were definitely injured. Zetterberg was just slow and his shots weren't very good. He was still setting people up, though.

I wouldn't give Stamkos a pass, he can't score in the playoffs, just like Joe Thorton. He better hope to god he scores at least 5 goals against Montreal or he will be considered as a player who can't get it done in the playoffs. Tampa will always be The Sharks of the East, great season, bad playoffs.

Zetterberg went from playing a great 50 game season to a crappy end of the year. He started off fine and turned into playing like he was 50 years old. He needs to work on his offseason conditioning in my opinion. It could be the difference maker in his longevity.

^ And that's why I am less pessimistic about Z as most people here are. You need to give the guy a chance to look back at his own season and re-evaluate his performance and what HE CAN do to make a difference next year. It starts with the off season.

That's actually an awesome strip club.

Did you see Weiss there tonight? Fur coat, looks like he's had 4 concussions, probably drinking expensive s***.

I say play Z on the second line next year with Sheahan and Nyquist, First line Tats Abby and Datsyuk, third Franzen Helm and Jurco fourth Luke Landon and Miller

Don't disagree with that much, but I do think that we have to try to give Pulks a decent run on a line with a playmaker and a piano puller...his last 20 or so AHL games he's at a goal a game, and won the equivalent of the rocket richard with 30 less games than the competition. He struggled a little this year, but came in when the team was struggling.

I also think if Franzen does come back, he has shown such brilliant chemistry with Nyquist that you have to play them together. Not holding my breath on seeing him again though.

Of course if we manage to trade weiss and hit FA, who knows if we'll have another decent sized body to throw into the mix....

I'm hardly one to defend Thornton, but he's primarily a setup guy. His career high in goals is 37, and that was with the Bruins.

Stamkos on the other hand has scored 60 goals before. He's expected to put the puck in the net in the postseason and hasn't so far.

Glad to see you went from "he should retire" to "get him another center to play with". Looks like you settled down on that one ;)

he should retire...but he won't and plus his cap hit would kill us. But he does not have what it takes anymore to be a #1 center.

I just don't think it's as simple as conditioning for him. I'm not saying that to bag on him, as I've been a supporter of his on here at every chance, but I think we have to be realistic about what we can expect from him at this point in his career given his back issues. He's still capable of being a great leader, and he is hardly useless, but he's not likely to be a threat down the stretch like he once was. The later-year Yzerman comparison is apt.

He was never supposed to be a center. He's a natural left wing forced to play center because the Red Wings don't have any good centerman besides Datsyuk. If we brought a good centerman in Z should just stick to LW and finish off his career.

Abby is no Abby? I just meant he can't use his grinder style into offensive production like Abby. Hard work and good physicality translated Abby's game into a bonafide top 6 player. Helm's game has not.

I think having one bad year after having 2 great ones in a row is just too early to make a call. He was at a PPG pace in 2013 and 2014. He was at PPG game pace this year until the later half of the season. It's just too premature to pass any judgement. If he sucks next year. I will agree with everyone.

Abby is not a bonafide top 6 player. A bonafide top 6 player would score more points in the regular season playing with Zetterberg and Nyquist. And certainly would do more in the playoffs than Abby did. He works hard and improved greatly, but still doesn't have a lot of talent.
