sjr2012 439 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 There are always decent backups on the UFA market every year. Trade howard in a package for help - could be a 2C or preferably a top 4 D. SJS, WPG, PHI, NYI all need an upgrade at G... Like a jumbo Joe and Mark Edward Vlasic? package in Howard Weiss and a 2nd than maybe id be all for ditching him Trade Howard for some help on D. Overpay Niemi to be Mrazek's veteran back-up, on a two year deal. Or keep Howard and Mrazek. And split starts. nyqvististhefuture 1,002 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 Either way we need help on D LOL There should be some d available through trade ... Got a feeling Phaneuf will be a wing when it's all said and done
Nyquistfan14 489 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 I really like the idea of trading Howard + for Thornton. Maybe Howard + jurco+ prospect for Thornton. Then go after phaneuf + Reimer for hopefully weiss + smith + kindl + helm. Franzen goes on LTIR This would give us tremendous center depth and allow hank to play with pavel. Abby- datsyuk- z Cole/ big body FA- joe t- pulk ( that shot with joe) Nyquist- sheahan- tatar Miller- glenny- Ferraro ( great 4th line/ shutdown) Kronwall- phaneuf Dd- Quincey E- marchenko/ oullete Mrazek Reimer I'm not sure how this is cap wise, but I think that team looks way better

But Doug Wilson does seem to have it out for Thornton...

It'll be a nice dream to land vlasic but I can't see them trading him as well as much as I'd want him to be a wing As for joe thornton forget it we need younger bigger bodies and he's older and has a high cap number 2 no no's ... Hank and pav are 34-36 ... That's good enough upfront for aging forwards Also got mule but who knows how that'll turn out
dirtydangles 1,328 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 Thornton would be a good short term fix and likely realistic with what holland will be willing to give up.

Rather get someone you get who's 6'4 and fast and hits .. Wouldn't be pissed at big joe coming but think we need more help at d and don't wanna give up good prospects for joe and I'd rather trade howard for a d
kliq 3,755 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 package Howard for Jumbo Joe. He can center Z. I actually would really like this, but Thornton wont leave California. If it did happen, could you imagine, Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Abby & Tatar-Thornton-Nyquist, then with Sheahan-Jurco-Helm thats 2 solid lines.

I really like Burns, can play defense or wing, brings a physical game and puts pucks in the net. 0% chance it happens but it'd be nice. 1 nyqvististhefuture reacted to this
kliq 3,755 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 I'd put pulkinen with Thornton I didnt think about that, I like that idea! Jonathan Cheechoo scored over 50 on a line with Thornton, that could be an awesome line!

Then a 3rd with tatar- Sheahan- nyquist would dominate other teams. 1 kliq reacted to this

WingsallTheway 383 Report post Posted April 30, 2015 I think both guys should split evenly. Can't go wrong with 41/41. Both good goalies and since they both lack consistency this could be a huge advantage

I'm really not worried about whatever he would scrape up, because historically, he really has done a good job in this area. This is also why I worry less about trading Howard than some might. And I believe we need to trade Howard because he has value and we aren't good enough to be able to have a Howard mrazek tandem. We need to get an asset for Howard and ride mrazek. I know it's risky, but at this point you take the risk because pav and z's window is almost shut 1 PumpIron reacted to this

If it did happen, could you imagine, Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Abby & Tatar-Thornton-Nyquist, then with Sheahan-Jurco-Helm thats 2 solid lines. How about: Z - Thornton - Tatar Abby - Datsyuk - Nyquist I say this because Thornton + Z and Tatar combo wud be a heavy scoring line. I say Datsyuk with Nyquist because. Well Z and Nyquist didn't go so well for us. Dats still has the ability to make his winger look real good. Even if it's not like it used to be. Abby wud be the powerforward for Dats. But we wont get Thornton. So lol.
