Free agents this off season

There really isn't a single UFA player that interests me much.

Green would be a good addition in terms of puck movement and shots getting through from the point, but he's sure to be overpaid and still not very reliable defensively after all these years in the league.

I honestly think we may need to package a promising young forward for some offensive help on the blue line.

From what I remember

Mike green. Cody franson. Barret jackman. Paul martin

Justin williams. Joel ward.

If use trade howard ... Jonas Enroth and niemi

My fav if we don't make a trade is joel ward .... Big body and can play and hits ... Exact type of playoff guy we'd need

Agree green won't be worth the price tag and franson was barely used in Nashville ... Overrated

I'd consider a martin or jackman on a 1yr deal but the thig with these ufa's are they get longer deals usually so I'd rather just trade for one and give marchenko/ouellet some games

Can't keep ignoring the kids ... How else will they ever get experience?

Mike Green or, if not available, Christian Erhoff on a short term contract. If we keep Babs I don't have the slightest doubt, that Green will learn how to play defense pretty fast.

Because Mule is very likely done I'd also resign Cole if his injury allows him to play a full season next year. We badly need a(nother) powerforward.

Joel ward would be awesome but he plays well on the wing with backstrom & ovi... I doubt they let him hit free agency.

I'd love for us to get green more than any ufa. Maybe a year or two of stafford.. or Cole (assuming he's not done-zo)

I thought you were a big fan of Mike Green?

Anywho - yes on the 2 guys you listed above.

Must agree with you concerning a trade, and how effective will a guy like Green be on the 5th, or 6th year of a 7 yr contract?

It also shows how important drafting has become; only a handful of UFA's are worth looking at.

I am a big fan of Mike Green. But like a lot of guys in the league, he's an excellent player for a particular role, and not too much more. And over the course of the year I've sorta come to the conclusion that I'd rather have a 30-35 pt. top four defenseman, than a 40-45 pt. bottom pair defenseman (and powerplay specialist).

No knock on Green at all. But he just doesn't log the kind of minutes I think we need out of another defender. There's a reason Washington went out and got Orpik (who completely shutdown Tavares by the way) and Niskanen. Green's no good in the top four.

Only time in recent years where I want the wings to just stand pat. Don't want to see Green with the money he will command and term. Cody Franson looked really weak in that Nashville lineup and hes also another case of getting stuck with big cash and term. Just doesn't seem worth it for a minimal upgrade.

I'd agree about Green. He's a bottom pair defender on a good team. But Franson is a pretty significant upgrade over everybody on our blueline other than Kronwall. He's like Dekeyser with offensive skills.

The reason he didn't look good in Nashville had more to do with the rest of the defense than with his ability IMO. They already had three point producing defensemen (Weber, Josi, Jones), and Franson wasn't leaned upon that heavily. His ice time went down nearly 6 minutes per game. Not surprising his offense suffered. Nevertheless, he still produced a little and played well defensively.

My only question about Franson is his foot speed, which isn't great. I don't like the idea of a slow team. But then again he's probably not much slower than Ericsson, Quincey, or Marchenko, so as long as he's playing where they would be, it's a wash.

Is Joel Ward a free agent? I seriously have not heard about this. I'd take Ward.

But Stafford is basically the same kind of player (both are basically similar to Abby). So we've got more than one option if Holland wants to find another Erik Cole in the off season.

Nashville was doing great before Cody Franson joined the lineup, after the trade is when Nashville started to fall off of the wagon.

That's fairly spurious. Detroit was doing great before they got Cole and Zidlicky, after which they struggled. But it would be wrong to insinuate that Cole and Zidlicky were the cause of the drop off.

I'd rather have Holland try to find an upgrade on the trade front as opposed to the free agent market. Just not a lot of interesting names, add in the high salaries and you might end up with another Weiss.

A 60 point player who gets injured after the trade and then fails to regain is pre-injury form?

Y'all have can have Cody Franson,Take him please

I don't watch the Preds and I've seen reports that Franson hasn't worked out at all and I've been curious about this. Can you shed some light on this? Who did he pair up with? Maybe just give some impressions if you don't mind.

Is it just that the team fell off when he came in so he's a scapegoat or did he specifically play badly?
