20 to 40 is a huge range.

I'm not sold on either Tatar or Nyquist being more than 60 point guys. Sure, they're valuable, but not guys you can't part with.

They got the tools to get 25-40 goals ... Not saying they'll get 40 goals per season but I can see either of them having a big year, besides that I can see them being regular 25-30 goal guys every season, and for that I'd personally want someone more certain than vatanen that's all

Not saying it'll just be nyquist/Tatar 1 for 1 but the main guy in a deal ... Vatanen hasn't proven enough for me yet to jump on it

I've been busy and admittedly have somewhat fallen out of the Red Wings loop, so to speak.

Who are players that are absolutely not going anywhere? Seems to be more talk of potential trades this offseason (Though I'm not putting a ton of stock into them at this point).

1. Are Tatar/Nyquist trade bait?

2. Is Weiss being bought out?

3. What is the deal with Franzen? Will he be back?

4. What's the deal with Smith? Are we re-signing him or trading him?

5. Who are we looking at on the blueline? Phaneuf, Wisniewski, Jackman, McQuaid?

6. Are we looking to add anyone up front?

Don't know if it's been posted and I take most things she says with a grain of salt but, st. James says that the wings will target beleskey. I don't think we'll offer him what other teams will and chances are slim to none that we actually sign him but he'd look damn good in a wings sweater imo.

Bring Back The Bruise Bros -

1. I wouldn't say that Tatar or Nyquist are "trade bait", but I do believe if the right deal came along for a top 4 defenseman, they could potentially be dealt.

2. My guess is that Weiss remains under contract for another season to see if he can be at least remotely productive under a new coach. If he's still not producing or not playing, he will likely be bought out next offseason.

3. Franzen along with management are hopeful that he can make a comeback, but I think he will likely stay on LTIR for the foreseeable future.

4. Smith will definitely be re-signed, but like Nyquist and Tatar, he could be part of a package to bring in a defenseman.

5. There are still a lot of rumors floating around about a trade with Toronto for Phaneuf. I personally don't see it happening. My bet is we sign a free agent or go with the kids.

6. Carl Soderberg and Matt Beleskey are the names I've been hearing floating around.

I don't really want to add much of anything up front unless it's a significant upgrade and/or we lose a forward or two in a trade over the summer...

1. I hope not. They're young and getting better.

2. I don't believe teams have that option this year. Probably try to trade him to a team looking to hit the cap floor.

3. He's cleared to play and is supposed to be back in the lineup next fall.

4. Listening to trade rumors, it sounds like they're trying to deal him, but who knows for sure.

5. Almost traded for Phaneuf at the deadline, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them try it again on Draft Day. If Babcock was still here, I'd think they would go after Green since Babs really wanted a right handed shooting d-man. Not sure about now.

6. Maybe a piece here or there, but we have a ton of good young forwards that are only getting better each year. This is the last place they should look to improve.

xtrememachine1, there is a buyout period every year, starting on June 15th or 48 hours after the final game of the playoffs (whichever is later), and ends on June 30th. So, by Thursday of this week, teams will be able to buyout contracts. You are probably confusing this with the Compliance Buyout period which was a two year window (each off-season) where teams could have bought out up to two players on their team without it costing anything against the salary cap. This however, costs teams between 1/3 (under 26 years of age) - 2/3 (over 26) of the total salary divided over twice the number of years left on the contract. If Weiss were bought out next offseason it would cost us $4.9M X 2 X 2/3 / 4 = approximately $1.633M per year for 4 seasons.

Where have you heard that Franzen has been cleared to play? All I've heard is that he is working hard to get to where he needs to be, and that the team is hopeful he can come back...

I believe Babcock was a huge reason we almost landed Phaneuf, I honestly don't see him being moved, and certainly not to the Wings...

Toronto wants to dump Phaneuf's salary and rebuild. Could be had for prospects. Weiss was just tacked on to trade one crap contract for another but I think the deal would have to involve a completely different package now

Phaneuf would probably be our highest scoring defensemen and his salary is huge leverage in the deal.

Should we be looking at niklas hjalmarsson? Chicago is gonna need cap space to resign saad and a few others and they have toews and kane getting 10 mill + on the cap

They have 7 million left in cap space and a bunch of roster spots to fill up .... There gonna try and trade sharp bickell veersteeg and maybe they'll try resigning seabrook to an extension earlier

Hjalmarsson has only has one 20+pt season so I'm sure they wouldn't be asking for the moon like the leafs are for phaneuf

Maybe a 2nd or 3rd (can trade for a 2nd rounder this year or send a 3rd this year or next) was thinking smith but they got a lot of good young dmen .... Maybe a nosek/jurco/Ferraro type player who can go into their lineup next year and help them off set losing vermette bickell versteeg richards sharp

We have too many forwards to trade for sharp, plus he's on the downswing if his career anyway and wed have to send a young cost controlled player back whos good enough to carry a decent amount value, which we don't need to be doing.

Seabrook would be awesome, but as stated, they're probably not going to move him.

I could see someone offer sheeting said, forcing them to match and depending on how the rest of their roster shakes out they may need to trade him, but it seems unlikely..

Oduya could be good.

I'd rather have him than franson, phaneuf, or green and we won't have to trade for him since hell be a UFA.

I mean, we could send them some kind of pick for the negotiating rights, but we don't have to.

jimmy, you'd rather Johnny Oduya over Franson, Green or Phaneuf? Seriously? He's the opposite of what we should be looking for. We need a top 4 puck moving defenseman that can put up some points, preferably in his prime, not a bottom pairing shut down defenseman...

Saw on twitter something about how the flyers haven't made any contact with lecavaliers agent on buying him out .... I was curious and went and check

Lecavalier has 3 years 4.5 cap hit left

I'm Not saying id do it but weiss has 3 years and 4.9 cap hit left

Would anyone take a gamble and make the trade?and then buy out lecavalier if he's god awful?

Contracts similar so it's 2 teams trading a problem for another

I'd probably try and trade weiss with some of his salary paid , rather then dealing with his contract for 4 years , or the 2nd option would be to just bury him in Grand Rapids for the season
