Nyquist had better numbers in 2013 which you said when comparing from last season which you really didn't touch on and I was commenting on the reason was more than likely due to him having to play defense more than focusing on offense like the rest of the team. Onym reason why we got into the playoffs but we need better d men who are offensive to fill that role and to feed the front end to fill the net and substain pressure on the offensive zone

Eh. Too early to this

Ok, I get your point now.

Goose hasn't even played two full seasons and he's a 25+ goal player. People are taking him for granted because of his size. I see him becoming a more well rounded player in the next few years

He is definitely under appreciated around here by some.

He didn't get as much ice time this year as he did last year, I mean we really leaned on him last year I don't feel like the team did this year, also he passed up a lot of shots he would've took last year

I guess we had Tatar and Abby taking the load off and the ice time plus Babs kept changing the lines up, he needs to play with Datsyuk man.

This article didn't fill me with any confidence that they'll fix their blue line anytime soon.

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2015/06/22/red-wings-aim-to-fill-void-on-blue-line-internally/

We kind have already been doing this and the results have been less than spectacular. How many seasons are we going to wait to see if these blueline prospects we have will pan out? Aside from DeKeyser, I haven't seen anybody show anything that would lead me to believe our defense will get better from within.

Let me help you believe

Kenny says he'd like to add a top 6 forward and a top 4 dman. Beleskey and Franson are both young UFAs and fit these needs. Does Kenny give them big money and big term? Does this make sense for the long term?

Beleskey is this years overrated winger. Did well in the playoffs in a contract year, but really he's just an ok 3rd liner.

David Clarkson 2.0? I don't know much about the guy.

If David clarkson wasn't being paid like an average 1st liner/high tier 2nd liner.

Yes.

He's kind of like what abdelkader was to us before this year, awesome bottom six winger, physical, could penalty kill/play sparingly on the pp, whatever they needed him to do.

He did score somewhere around 20 goals this year(beleskey) but I think he only had like ten assists or something odd like that.

No and no. Beleskey is overrated and we don't need more forwards especially one that won't make an impact bigger than the guys we already have in the AHL. Franson is going to get overpaid by someone and that someone won't be us. Plus, do we really want another Franson to complain about? We'll probably end up with Fleischmann, Erat or Stafford. That'll be our big top 6 acquisition. Maybe Martin St Louis if he ends up being cheap. On defense it'll be like Zbynek Michalek or Michal Rozsival. A right handed shot that nobody else wants and will be cheap. We have too many good young forwards with inexpensive contracts to spend big money elsewhere.

I will personally turn my back on this team if Cody Franson is signed.

Scouting report from Khan:

Strengths: His offensive ability, He moves the puck well, has a good shot and can quarterback the power play.

Weakness: Is not widely regarded as a strong defender, lacking consistency. He registers a fair number of hits but isn't overly physical.

(1) - He has only had 2 seasons in which he scored over 30 points (33 in 2014 + 36 in 2015), Both with Toronto, who (in his time as a leaf) were actually among the highest scoring teams in the league, but he was -20 in 2013-14, and -7 last year.

(2) - As a Leaf, he was essentially a top pairing player - typically playing with the Kessel, Lupul and Bozak line. He was on the #1 PP unit as well as the PK. What I'm trying to say is that he played in all situations, logged the most ice time and was generally in a good (if not great) situation to maximize his point totals - in spite of win totals.

(3) - At age 27, it was the Toronto Maple Leafs who decided that he was in no way/shape/form a part of this teams future. They traded him to Nashville, where he could barely crack the lineup (forget the top 4). On a good team full of good defenseman, he only registered 4 points in 23 games.

Say what you will, but we are a lot closer to the Nashville Predators than the Toronto Maple Leafs - and haven't we already seen what happens when signing a player (with the ability to consistently produce points on a bad team) to a multi year contract? Just like Stephen Weiss, Cody Franson has never shown he could combine individual production with team success.

No, he isn't worth 6 years at $6,000,000+.
