Back in 2010-2011 I'd have been fine with signing Ehrhoff with a top four spot in mind. But I'd be really reluctant to now. He's not been great over the last few seasons. Ultimately it's in the scouting staff's hands, but I'm generally worried that he's on the decline.

Agreed.

I used to be very high on the Wings getting Ehrhoff.

His two years in Vancouver put his value at an all time high and he signed that monster contract with Buffalo...

Where he went on to... rot?

Seriously.

32 points in 66 games in 2011-12

22 points in the shortened '12-'13 campaign.

33 points in 79 games in '13-14

14 points in 49 games last year (injury plagued)

Not to say he couldn't have a bounce back year... I mean, he didn't even get a real opportunity with PIT last year with his injuries. ...but is that what we'd be looking forward to? I don't know whether he's worth it.

Also... He's a lefty.

I think every coach would prefer to have three lefty / righty pairings. The problem is, there are more left handed shooters in the league than rights. I think it's something close on 70% for lefties over righties...

Sportsnet free agent tracker shows Karri Ramo resigned in Calgary 1 year for $3.9 million, but when you click on the link for details. Whoops! 404. So take that for what it's worth.

Karri Ramo's one-year extension with #flames is worth $3.9M.

Teams tightest to the cap, including estimated RFA deals and LTIR: Chicago, Minnesota, Montreal, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, NYR.

Those teams can't afford to be buyers for any of the big fish without shipping out other money.

Things change fast on UFA Day. Now hearing SJ no longer a top contender for Paul Martin. But COL will be in hard on Francois Beauchemin.

Blashill really liked him in GR. Good for him to get 1-way.

1 way AHL contract for Miele?

Yes.

I like this move. Keeping GR competitive (with veteran players) has a HUGE, and understated, impact on the development of our prospects. I love having guys in GR who work hard, and win, even if they'll never get a call up. Their influence on the young guys cannot be overstated.

Good for Andy. I saw the griffins play a couple times last year and he looked pretty solid.

I don't think he'll crack the line up next year (certainly not full time), but he could mentor the younger kids in GR.

All in all, a well deserved raise.
