I'd wait until right before training camp, and if nobody has signed Semin I'd offer him a 1 year, 1 million dollar deal. If he's not available, oh well. If he doesn't accept the offer, oh well. If he takes it, great. I'm not going to leave a guy with that much skill sitting on the sidelines if I can get him for peanuts, but I wouldn't go too far out of my way to sign him.

If we traded some low potential players, why not

What low potential players are we going to trade though that will give us an upgrade on D? Teams want Pulks, XO, Nyquist, Tatar etc.

I just don't see the point of moving one of those players for 1 year of Semin who is a huge gamble to begin with and it's not a Holland move.

Pulkkinen sucks. I'd start there.

He hasn't really impressed me at NHL level, not sure if others share my opinion. He did have a decent year with the Griffins tho.

If Franzen goes on LTIR I would go for Semin, but not throw too much at him if its possible.

Sounds like most of this recent discussion involves moving marginal talent to acquire other marginal talent. We have a lot of low to mid range NHL forwards. If we were to package them up to seriously upgrade a position

like a solid defenseman or a forward with some size, grit etc I can see making a deal. Holland seems to love to collect these guys (forwards). Most of us waited all off-season thinking we'd see a trade that never materialized. I'd be all

for a Semin signing if he was a bit younger but at his age seems like a plug for a year. The real fail on this team as it sits is on the defense, if we bolstered that I'd be OK with a guy like Semin to push us over the top. We need to weed

out some of the guys who will never produce and trade them for another solid piece (Shattenkirk etc...).

So... Garbage Out/Talent In.

Yeah... No. Not gonna happen.

St. Louis, for example, isn't going to take our middling/marginal/third pairing/bottom 6 talent and give us Shattenkirk.

It just doesn't work that way.

This kid in the AHL is awesome look at his numbers there oh wait he played a few games in the NHL and didn't dominate he sucks dump him right now

While I don't think he sucks by any means, I am unconvinced his success will ever translate to the nhl. I hope I'm wrong. I just don't see it.

Exactly. He sucks. Dump him while some people are still gullible enough to think he'll be any good.

His trade value is higher now than it likely ever will be.

Unless he breaks out and has a really good year. Like Tatar and Nyquist did. But with a 10th their speed or athleticism. At which point he'd just be another Tatar or Nyquist...and we'd need to trade him...for being redundant.

What makes anyone thing that Pulkkinen's game can not or will not translate to the NHL? He has been more productive than Tatar at every level. He is slightly bigger, one year younger and will be a better player in my opinion. His right handed bomb is exactly what this team needs, but yeah, he sucks... Maybe we can convince some team to give us a 7th rounder for this scrub...

Because he's slow. And the NHL is a fast game. And it's pretty hard to get your "right handed bomb" off if you're consistently slower than the guys defending you.

Other than that, yeah, he's probably going to be better than Tatar. Lol.

The wings/griffins have them listed as the same size... but, I think a lot of it has to do with how pulk played when he was up vs while in Grand Rapids. He looked a little slow and got knocked off the puck too easily when he played up with the wings some last season. then goes back to down to the AHL and dominates.

He really just needs to put on some size and gain a little confidence and he should be fine. But to say there's no way he can not translate his game to the NHL is wrong.. of course there's a chance.

And, if that's the case, his trade value would be as high as it will be right now. Trading him would be a gamble, no doubt.. but a gamble some people would be willing to make. I'm still on the fence about pulkkinen....

Pulkkinen is far from "slow"... He has a very awkward stride but he can actually get up and down the ice pretty quick. He's not Helm fast, but not many are. I bet if there were a race between the entire team, he would finish somewhere in the middle. But yeah, it is completely unreasonable to think he would produce more than Tatar, being much more productive in the AHL...Pulkkinen - 121 points (65 goals, 56 assists) in 119 games and Tatar - 196 (87 goals, 109 assists) in 265 games... Also very similar numbers to start their NHL careers... Pulkkinen - 8 points (5 goals, 3 assists) in 34 games and Tatar - 8 points (5 goals, 3 assists) in 27 games...

I've watched him play. He's slow, small, and a one trick pony offensively. Guys like that don't normally have much success in the NHL. He's Jiri Hudler without the versatility. And it's a miracle that Hudler is as good as he is, I'm betting lightening doesn't strike twice.

People are dreaming if they think mid range talent will net the Wings someone like Shattenkirk, Armstrong is already on thin ice in St.Louis he is not going to trade another huge core piece for junk again

I am sure it would start with Tatar and then add from there

I agree LeftWinger. Blashill will absolutely use him correctly, something Babcock never did. And that's exactly where I'd like him to slot in, on the 3rd line with Sheahan and Jurco and on the left faceoff dot on the power-play. He will be a huge threat if he is used the same way Blash used him in Grand Rapids, but I think we all know that Calder candidate is out of the question...

Kip, you've watched him play? I haven't... Is he any good? I heard he has quite the shot...

That little one trick that you speak of... He can do that better than anyone in the Red Wings organization. You don't trade that away unless you're getting something similar in return (which we wouldn't). I'm not saying, he's going to score 40 goals every year and he is irreplaceable... What I am saying is that it's ridiculous that he is getting written off after 34 games in which he was very poorly utilized, knowing that we have a new coach that actually used him properly and he produced... a lot...

I remeber lstenting to one game where Pulk was up playing for the wings. Announcers were praising his AHL performance but the rest of the game they kept comenting how weak his skating looked at this level.

But pulk isn't the same type of player that Tatar or Nyquist are. His strength is to get open and fire that puck which is a big need for the wings. Getting open in the NHL is gunna be alot harder than in the AHL. If Pulk is used right he can be effective but for much else he could be a disaster so I'm not sure how to feel about em yet, guess well see.

There are a number of different scouting reports, talent analyses, and game recaps which all explicitly call his skating into question. He was able to produce a lot in the AHL, despite of his slowness, because it's a much slower league. The NHL isn't.

Unless he's a can't miss top line player, I'd ALWAYS trade an unproven third line winger with question marks in his game for something better.

Pulkkinen, 2016 2st, and Kindl/Smith (or something comparable) to Winnipeg for Dustin Byfuglien. Upgrade the 2nd to a 1st if completely necessary.

This sounds really familiar.... oh yea, that guy that just scored 70 points for Calgary and used to play for us. He plays for a top 5 team in terms of speed, yet does perfectly fine.

Like I said, I'm not saying he should not be traded, I'm saying he doesn't "suck"... You don't lead the entire American Hockey League in goals by a wide margin, despite missing nearly half the season and "suck"... And to suggest he won't be an NHL player is ludicrous. I think he will be a legit 2nd/3rd line winger / power-play specialist. Again, he is not slow, he is just a very awkward looking skater. There are also a number of different sources that stat that he has been working on his skating. No one in the entire organization, and very few in the entire league, have a shot as powerful and accurate as this kid. I'll hold on to him, to see what he can do under a coach that will without a doubt use him properly. To throw him away without even giving him that opportunity would be foolish in my opinion...
