I'm ashamed to be Russian... I stopped rooting for this team long time ago...

Hockey in Russia now is like one of the battle fields in war against the West. Hockey players aren't opponents in the game of sport, they are enimeis...

If you can hear current russian coach you'd be amazed, this guy is total psycho, he soaked in Goebbels-like anti-western propaganda and these boys he has been coaching, are clearly under his and more other higher-ups influence. I blame him, I blame legend Tretyak, I blame Slava Fetisov - he become one of these who are now on the other side of common sense...

I know this isn't going to last long and Russian will understand and make it right. I just hope it happen sooner...

Russia has to start changing the philosophy in order to be successful. USA and Canada both went in and played as teams and played a structure system (200 foot game), Russia has too many individuals that see the game one way only. You can't beat teams as individuals.

They need to start developing two way players / dmen more, it's ok to have the superstars like Ovi, Malkin and Tarasenko (when he is allowed to play) but the blueline for Russia is absolutely horrendous. The coaching also needs to change, they switch coaches but it's the same results every time and the bias to have mostly KHL players is ridiculous as well.

Well if you only mean World Championship tournaments then Russia is by far the most successful team during the last eight years with four golds and two silvers. I agree with what you are saying though as they seem to live and die by their offensive play. That tournament is a big thing in Europe. Russia isn't the only country where the nationalism gets too involved in sports. Canada and USA would sure have more success in the tournament if they cared about it more.

I'm speaking about best on best which is only measured by the Olympics. If Russia wants to win gold at the Olympics they need to change a lot. No one in North America cares about the WC tournament.

oh, i wasn't talking about loss (who expected otherwise?!) and I haven't stopped rooting for them because they are loosing...

Hockey in Russia was once a sport, now it became politics.

I remember watching 1972 Canada - USSR Series. There were a lot of respect from both teams, there were a lot of not-understanding, even hatred, politics for sure, but respect nevertheless.

The way these boy behave, there have little respect to the opponent (especially US and Canada, but Czech and the rest of former-soviet block as well) and I'm not sure when they disrespect the opponent more - when they lose or when they win...

You obviously forgot about Canada.

But when Canada loses Canadians say, "It's only the World Championships"

Ok so we won, who cares it's only the World Championships, it doesn't hold the merit the Olympics does because it's not best on best.

6 million people watched Canada win gold in the World Championships. 30 million watched Canada win gold in the Olympics. That's over 90 percent of our population.

I agree that most don't care about the World Championships and I almost never watch, however, Crosby going this year certainly increased the profile and interest of most. I think a lot of top players end up going (if available) for the European countries, but not Canada and US.

I figure he really wanted to get in the triple gold club

Yes, triple club, but I think he became the 10th or 11th to have the quadruple gold (Stanley Cup, Olympics, World Championships and World Juniors).

I know Scott Neidermayer has the following:

- Stanley Cup

- Olympics

- World Championship

- World Cup

- World Juniors

- Memorial Cup

Not sure if anyone else has that, but that's pretty hard to do....especially getting the Memorial Cup. The best players are only going to have 1 or max 2 chances at that.
