Mantha, Nyquist, Smith to Carolina for Justin Faulk? If Hanifin falls to 5th I could see both sides going for this deal. Obviously there's no basis behind this and its just a pipe dream but I can hope.

goals... lots and lots of goals. A grinder or even a thug would be nice to stand up for players. Also, players who shoot and not pass all the damn time.

Andy Pred 48, the chances of us moving up within the top 5 to grab Hanifin are about zero, but I'd love if we could move up to draft Werenski...

nawein, I'd love to have Justin Faulk (probably one of my favorite young defensemen), and you're probably pretty accurate in what they'd ask for, but if that's what it cost, I doubt I'd do it...

Why not? You've said yourself we lack a young elite talent on the blue line. This gives us that in a huge way. The only thing we lose from the roster is Nyquist and Smith. So we lose Nyquist for a massive upgrade on the back end that allows us to slot the rest of our defenseman in a proper slot. We also don't lose any points because Faulk scored almost as many as Nyquist. If you then want to replace Nyquist, trade Pulkkinen and a D prospect to Boston for Reilly Smith. We're a better team and a lot of the log jam is gone. Our core also gets younger and we can focus on drafting another Mantha. I don't know, that's what I'd try to do.

Yeah I know, but I do feel that the young Russian will be a stud down the line if we could get him I'd be happy

This article suggests Keith Yandle being traded out of new york.... wonder what it would take to acquire him?

His cap hit is extremely cap friendly due to the coyotes keeping half of it but he's a free agent after next season.

I guess Yandle isn't old enough to be part of the Rangers plans going forward.

I know you're joking, but you gotta imagine that if they feel they need to move a D-man to free up some space (although, 2.625 because of ARI retaining half his salary isn't *THAT* much) ...he's still gotta be the piece they can move the easiest.

It's not as if anyone might want old man Boyle.

The article I linked to also mentions Nash as a potential trade candidate to free up cap space.. But combine how good the rest of their defense is with how yandle.didn't quite fit in as they had planned and yandle seems more likely.

I imagine they'd want a good center prospect in return though.. I don't really know what Detroit would have to offer them but yandle would be a very welcome addition imo.

Yandle's so affordable I don't know why you wouldn't let him play out his contract. Assuming, of course, you think you'll still be in the hunt later on. Hang on to him, and trade him at the deadline for a fortune if you don't want him later, but throw the baby out with the bathwater? You're not going to get a more talented defenseman for 2.75 million dollars.

Because Sather is still the GM. Other than that... who knows why?!?!?

I had read somewhere that the hawks might trade a defensemen or 2 since they got a lot of good dmen coming up and not enough spots

Went and check Chicago and they got 15 defensemen on hockeysfuture and 10 with a 6.5 + rating

Went and check detroit ... 8 defensemen and only 4 with a 6.5+ rating ... Pretty embaressing

The first one that caught my eye is carl dahlstrom since cause of the wings I always look at the swedes first but he's 20 and probably not ready and hawks surely won't trade him now

Anyone there that catches your interest ?

So the hawks don't really have 15 defensemen as prospects and the wings have 8? And they aren't much better than ours?

Damn hockeysfuture ... Damn you

Having a bunch of prospects really only means they'll have more washouts and trade throw-ins when they run out of contract slots to sign all those guys.

I don't put much stock in HF ratings. 6.5 seems like their default rating. Could mean a pretty decent player like Marchenko, or someone who will almost certainly never see the NHL like Aubry. The letter grades seem to be C by default, B if the player is just about at the predicted rating already, and D if the player is all but washed out.

Yeah, we lost three defense prospects this year, so our total number is low. But that's no reason to go chasing Chicago's garbage. We already have more guys running out of options than we have room. We need a few guys that are further away than what Chicago will be trying to dump. We'll try to draft a few this year, a few more next year, and so on, and our shortage of D prospects will be taken care of that way. If we're going to trade for D, it needs to be someone better than someone on our current roster.

Besides, Chicago's depth is nothing. Dallas has the real goods. :)
