Phil Kessel blockbuster

I don't see how this trade helps Carolina at all...

Yeah you get rid of Semin and replace him with Kessel, thats good but by the time the team is any good kessel will be 30 and 240 lbs. Then the 5th overall which is going to be a phenomenal player, is replaced by Kadri..

Also on Toronto's end, whats the point of ridding Kessel's contract if your just replacing it with semin's?

The kessel thing I imagine is to give staal some support.

And kadri, will be a good 3rd line center for them, I guess.

As for the semin/kessel Toronto contract comment....

Semins only got 3 yrs left on his contract, compared to kessels 19, which will put him around 380lbs

Thing is, Stall's contact is up after next season (I believe). As a rebuilding team, would it make sense to even keep him next season? Hes been on the downfall for awhile now

Maybe Toronto is trying to use their 4th pick and the canes 5th to trade up to #2..?? I doubt this deal even goes down but having #4 & 5 in such a deep draft could work wonders for their rebuild

Or I wonder if they have pieces that could add to those two picks and land McDavid.. that'd probably cost too much though.

Maybe the Canes think a lack of Tim Horton's will help Kessel keep the weight of.

Well played, but isn't Krispy Kreme based out of the Carolinas? Their glazed donuts blow away anything Tim Horton's bakes.

Hes said repetitively that he wants to stay there though, so who knows.

Yeah I guess it depends on what kind of cap hit he's looking for. Hes somewhere around 8M right now isnt he? Thats too much.

He's still not old, so im sure he could still contribute in another 5 years. It all depends on the direction Carolina wants to go with it I guess.

It wouldn't be a terrible idea to trade him this off season for mid-level picks or decent prospects. Thats OT though haha

I wonder if hes got some kind of NFC/nmc.

He's already stated that he's unwilling to waive his NTC....

Despite trade speculation, Carolina Hurricanes captain Eric Staal wont be waiving his no-trade clause.

According to Sportsnets Elliotte Friedman, Staal wants to remain in Carolina.
