Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams

How could it be, he's scheduled to talk to SJ and St. Louis today?

But if so, really, Buffalo ... are they that much closer to the Cup than us? I guess it was about the $$, >$5M/yr.

As the old expression goes, money /= happiness. Babs will be miserable for at least 3 years in Buffalo, they aren't even close to a playoff team yet.

Agree ... please take the $5M from Buffalo and enjoy coffee with Rex Ryan.

He'd be following no less than Scotty Bowman as bench boss in Buffalo. Could be interesting! Personally, I expect Babs to be in Detroit again next season.

Here's a fun fact, Babs' last contract extension was in October, 2010. By that time he'd already won an Olympic gold and gone to the finals twice. And all those accomplishments could/should have been used in the negotiations for that contract.

What's he done since 2010 that would nearly double his last contract? Win one Olympic gold and two playoff series?

What is Mr. I going to do with all the money he saves by hiring Blashill, what do you think he will be offered for his 1st NHL head coaching gig, $1.5M/yr ?

Doesn't he make that now? He deserves a raise anyways.

He makes $400,000 now, double what most AHL coaches make.

Oh wow, way less then I thought.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Wings losing someone because of money and future expectations..glad Holland got a 4 year extension Seems like Chris Ilitch is more interested in the bottom line instead of icing the best of the best. I think if Mr. I doesn't step in Babs is gone.

Your basing your opinion off speculation from random reporters. No one knows what the Wings have counter offered and they can't control is Babs wants to leave anyways. We are in good hands regardless with Blash.

He kept "The Streak" alive!

Maybe it's just me, but I have no idea why Mike Babcock doesn't just stay in Det. Good team, great GM, heckuva owner, lots of young players.

It's a good question.

The only plausible answers I can come with is he feels that his offer from the Wings is low, or he feels like after 10 years his time is up here in Detroit and it's time to change it up.

Earned Holland a 5-year contract extension by getting Kenny's mediocre rosters into the playoffs year after year? :P

If the Wings offer was equally as good sure then there's nothing they could have done but if the Wings got outbid by Buffalo that's not Wings style usually the Wings are outbidding everyone .

As I've mentioned the Sabres are a team on the rise and they'll add a young phenom in Eichel soon. So if Babs decides to coach them watch out.

Blues well that's one Heck of a well built team

Does anyone have Mike's email before he makes a decision, I want to send him this article and findings:

Is tomorrow D-Day or B-Day? lol

Helene St. James ‏@HeleneStJames 3m3 minutes ago

Per Mike Babcock, he and #RedWings general manager Ken Holland "are talking tomorrow."

I thought they were supposed to talk today?

I think Babcock is a great coach, but after all this drama it's gonna be a little annoying if he ends up staying.

Though I guess it gives all of us and definitely the media something to blather on about in between playoff games.

That's true, but for the first time in maybe ever, if I had to choose between Holland and Babcock, I'd choose Holland. Babcock's line combos with those "mediocre" players have gotten on my nerves. At least Kenny tried to improve the team this season by making moves before the deadline. Babcock just kept doing the same stubborn s***.

If he returns, the whole circus wouldn't bother me at all. He's earned the right to see what's out there. I'd like him to resign, if not, so be it.

Holland made two moves, 1 got hurt the other turned to s***.

I get people's frustrations, but what does it matter which lines Babcock went with if the entire team is mediocre?

Agreed. Plus, you cant blame him for the media. All he did was grant one interview which is IMO is no big deal.
