If this is true... Good Freaking Lord

Matthew Coller @MatthewWGR · 7m 7 minutes ago

A source close to the situation tells me the Sabres' offer is "in the range of $50 million dollars"

If that is indeed true, he'd be out of his mind to NOT sign it.

In breaking news, Holland has just traded Steven Weiss to Buffalo. :shout:

Enjoy losing in Buffalo

Everyone has an ego, so he probably doesn't feel they'll lose. He probably thinks "he" can be the one to change their fortune. Also, the money is pretty damn good, you must admit.

Another s***ty season in Detroit, and he won't demand the same amount of money. He needs to jump on the gravy train while it's there.

If true, wow. But I really doubt that it is. I just don't see how you get to that number without a lot of years, and I don't see either side agreeing to anything north of six years, and even that sounds like a long contract right now.

Lets get real, if Buffalo offers Babcock 50 mil and Holland offers 20 mil- he'd be out of his mind not to got to Buffalo. I can't blame him if he accepts a contract that's twice the value of the Wings offer. Realistically would any of us turn that down? Anyway it's all speculation until something happens.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie · 8m 8 minutes ago

As an analyst, based on what we've seen/heard, the prevailing sentiment is Babcock will stay in DET. That appears to be conventional wisdom

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie · 5m 5 minutes ago

But I have to tell you, based strictly on not much more than instincts, I could see Babcock ending up in BUF. Like I said, just a hunch.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie · 4m 4 minutes ago

If I had to bet big bucks of my own money, I'd probably wager DET. If I could lay down a loonie or twoonie with a big payoff, I'd pick BUF.

So basically he has no idea. Thanks Bob

Heard on the radio 50 mill for Babcock by buffalo? Nice knowing you Babs lol

He can say all he wants about how it's not about the money but when your offered 3.25 for 4 yrs by detroit and you can get 50 and set up your family and future grand kids for life i just don't see any way Babcock will not be the new coach of buffalo

I can only assume it is 50 mil for 10 years. But in 5 years time, it is a safe bet to say 5 mil per year would no longer make for the highest paid coach. SO I wouldn't say that 50 million contract is a sure thing for Babs to accept, unless that amount is for something insane like 5 years.

Edit: spelling

Just saw this on twitter.

This is what $50Mil in hype will do to a desperate fanbase.

It's hilarious tho.

Even better than no seeds in a watermelon laffy taffy.

If he doesn't take this contract I don't think any coach will get 5 mill per anytime soon . .. If he took this deal it would drive up coaches salaries ... If he took 3.25 the next guy would get like 3.5

Just remembered (well saw that age post pic) Evander Kane is on BUF. Can Babcock even knock any sense into that jackhole? I'd shun job just because of that d-bag.

I personally think he'll take the Buffalo job. He doesn't want to be the coach that ends the Wings' playoff streak, and that could conceivably happen soon if the last couple of seasons are any indication.

Also, Buffalo has a metric ton of young talent... How fun would it be to inherit that, mold them while they're young and malleable, and then sit back and watch your creation play great hockey for years to come?

I don't have any direct links, but I recall reading numerous times Babock saying that sometimes a coach's voice becomes like Charlie Brown's teacher after a while, and that the players stop listening. I think he thinks he's at that point, and maybe has been for a while.
